Apparently in Austin TX he was provoked into getting into an altercation with at least four or more FSU track athletes, two of which were also on the football team at an NCAA sponsered event. After he refused to get involved and left the event, he was jumped by a few of the guys on the FSU squad. He had to have stitches in his face from being hit by a bottle and did injure one of the FSU members by defending himself. Luckily, he was cleared by authorities because he was defending himself. At least two of the FSU athletes could be charged with a felony. I heard he is back and Clemson and is ok. Hopefully, nothing more will come out of this feud between us and the Criminoles and we can take it out on them on the field instead of stooping to their level and acting like thugs. I'm sure this will add feul to the fire of our game this year.

If these guys played football do you think that BBowden.....

Jun 13, 2004, 9:58 PM

is losing control of his program? Or do you think that BBowden's program draws too much attention so things are blown up?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If you look at past transgressions, you'll notice a pattern

Jun 13, 2004, 10:15 PM

that has gotten worse over the years. I think there was a LOT more going on in the past that he was able to cover up or sugar coat that he doesn't have the ability to control any longer.

Thats why I asked the question. Seems like since............

Jun 13, 2004, 10:28 PM

Amato and Richt left they are always in trouble. Those are quality assistants and lots of schools would drop off after losing them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well, it seems as though you are branching

Jun 13, 2004, 10:40 PM

from the original question of whether Papa is losing control or are things being blown up because of who they are. I truly believe that he doesn't have a hands-on knowledge of a lot of things that he used to pay a lot of attention to. I think that he has turned a lot of the "smaller" problems over to his assistants that don't monitor them as well as they should. As you recall, he wasn't even aware that Dockett had been ejected in the first half until Heather told him at the halftime interview of the game.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

na he knew.....if you watch the game again, you'll see that

Jun 13, 2004, 10:45 PM

he was standing right beside Dockett when he came off the field for the ejection. I'm not sure why he lied about knowing what happened, but he HAD to know.

Bobby Bowden has always played dumb about incidents he doesn't like. He did it about them taunting us at the bottom of the Hill in '88 and '99. That's just the way he "handles" things, I think.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

well, that's what I meant by sugar coating things....

Jun 13, 2004, 10:50 PM

but you can't hide forever. Whether he knew or not, I don't know. Having just watched the game again yesterday (thanks to MBRO), I got the impression that he really was surprised. I could be wrong. I just don't think he is in the "know" as he was in the past.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i know what you're saying....he looks downright

Jun 13, 2004, 11:04 PM

disinterested sometimes. But watch it again, and notice that Bowden walks up to the crowd surrounding the ejected player. I think he knew what happened...like I say, he acted that way even as a reasonably young guy (in '88): "we were taunting them when they came out? really? i didn't know that!!!"

(well where in the heck were you, Bobby? everyone else in the stadium saw it...)

I live in Florida and he has been catching some heat concerning that issue. It seems he hands out punnishment according to how much he needs you.Stars get awe shucks
and seldom used reserves get booted.

When did all this happen? I haven't seen any press on it.*****

After the way FSU cheated to win the ACC indoor meet...

Jun 13, 2004, 9:53 PM [ in reply to Re: Any update on Currie's injuries?*** ]

this year, this doesn't surprise me at all. I'm sure their football guys have a lot of ill will towards Currie. I'm betting that unlike the pansies from FSU Currie will take out his frustrations on the field. Look for one fired up Tiger football team to take the field in Doak Campbell this year.

It'll be interesting to see if any of the media...

Jun 13, 2004, 10:25 PM

talking heads have the stones to cover this story. This is an opportunity for Wright, Doyle, etc. to cover a real story. I'm betting none of them have the balls or the brains to write a story about it.

Re: After the way FSU cheated to win the ACC indoor meet...

A Clemson athlete was the top seed in the 400m at the ACC indoors. The meet was very close between FSU and Clemson. During the 400 a FSU runner that is also on the football team bumped the Clemson guy causing them both to be disqualified (taking away a probable 10 points from Clemson). After the race a fight broke out between members from both track teams, causing the the 400m runner from Clemson to be DQed for the remainder of the meet (thereby costing Clemson more points in the 4x400). Florida State ended up winning the meet by a decent amount, and may have won without the incident, but it is pretty likely that their actions surrounding the 400m race were taken in an effort to deliberatly cost Clemson points.

Jun 13, 2004, 10:53 PM

Did that carry over to the current situation?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't know for sure, but I would suppose...

Jun 13, 2004, 11:16 PM

that considering the previous incident, there was probably already a strong dislike between the two sides.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg2013_pickem_champ.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The last I read was that there were stitches .....

Jun 13, 2004, 9:31 PM

to the face....sounds like the FSU athletes could also be facing felony charges. Cudos to Currie for trying to do the right thing and walk away...unfortunatley, it set him up to be ganged upon outside the facility. What a low class act by the FSU "athletes"...they need to serve some time over this .

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Where were the rest of our guys????

Jun 14, 2004, 1:20 AM

It concerns me that A. Currie was outside all by himself, with nobody watching his back. If so, these FSU dirtbags really planned their little "mugging" of Currie. I don't know much about law, but isn't the thought of planning an assault more serious than a spur of the moment thing??

Depending upon the state...

Jun 14, 2004, 11:04 AM [ in reply to Where were the rest of our guys???? ]

you could tack on conspiracy to commit assault which would increase the potential punishment.

he sent one of the four that attacked him to the hospital. He has a cut that required stitches and the FSU SID is supposed to release a update about the incident and the players involved later.
