Another nail biter! A few thoughts...

Dj looked better than he has...still a far cry from dominant! Our O line is soft and weak..no improvement. Why do we run dead into the nose guard on every rush..where are the sweeps? Do we practice any wrinkles bc we never try one? Injuries have been a killer all year...again tonight! Thankfully Cunningham slowed himself down. What is going on with Venables rush D ? And where’s the four man front? Our linebackers look slow. Have they lost a step to fatigue? Why not take the FG on fourth and goal? Why not take a legitimate shot at a first down to ice the game? Why not burn your timeouts on that goal line stand to save time should they score? Lots of questions, but I’m gonna enjoy the win, and the cover. This team could easily be 1-8 or 8-1. Let’s win out! Win state! And win 10! That would be something to build on . Go Tigers

Something to build on! And this coming from from a team that was ranked as high as # 3 when the season began. A team that will not have a single win against a top 10 team this year ,a team that has not had an impressive win against anybody this year ,a team that has struggled to get a lead and keep it before half time, a team barely scoring over 20 points a game(18 points if you take out the S.C. State game),and more importantly seem to have more excuses for what is going wrong than they have any answers to fix the problem. If UCONN is a nail biter, maybe the team they should put up a tombstone marker for this team is on Boot-Hill.

Yeah, a lot of good thoughts. Mukuba played a heck of a game, but we sorely missed Booth back there. I hope we get him back next week. I would have preferred going for the first down on the series to ice the game, but making them burn time outs had some merit. I also thought that we should not lose so much time on the goal line stand, in case they scored; but it all worked out. We played with a lot of heart, and without some key players as we have all year. These freshmen are playing some great football. The muffed punt hurt us for most of the game. It’s frustrating to have a year like we’re having, after so many fantastic years. So many great moments, that can never be taken away. So many factors contribute to the year we’re having, can’t just pick out one. But you know it happens to everyone eventually. These are just kids that are playing their tails off, but they’re human, the coaches are human. You can tell the difference when DJ is throwing to Collins, who he played with in high school. Also, I think we should utilize Allen a little bit more than we do. That kid can catch. Sorry for the lengthy post. GO TIGER! (good years and not so good years)

Definitely agree with your run game comment- it is maddening the lack of variation in where and how we try to run the ball! Straight into the line for the RB every time.

In regards to the timeouts…..

We got a good stop on first down…had some momentum and proved the decision right by getting them for a loss on 2nd down. They were out of timeouts…so perhaps we did not want to give them multiple opportunities to draw up a play. Louisville had hit on some big plays throughout the evening…but they had not had to deal with our goal line D.

If that's the strategy, then don't call a timeout at all.
Puts more time pressure on them.

Don't look at only the negatives, man. This team did a lot

of growing up in this game. Something to be said for an offensive group that drove down the field and got the go ahead score on a possession that could well have been our last one in the game, for all they knew. DJ shows at least some signs of life throwing the ball. And, at least one new receiver began to catch some of them. Ross started to look like Ross again out on the boundary.
MY only negative on the RB group is that none of them seems to possess the "run to daylight" gene that Etienne had. As you said, Shipley, especially seems to want to run straight at the "designed" hole, even when it is painfully obvious there is no hole at all there. When he breaks through the initial contain, he is TOUGH to bring down. All that stuff will get better with more experience. Remember, he was playing high school ball a year ago.

Shipley hasn’t played football since 2019 due to COVID.

the run up the middle is to discourage the defense from certain blitzes because if they blitz and we run that play and block correctly, it's a touchdown.
If we could pass protect better, we wouldn't have to run it as often.
and if it's blocked correctly it should be a 5 yard gain. The fact that our offense can't win one on one battles is the issue.
