Another fun topic...excess deaths worldwide
May 17, 2021, 4:51 PM
|
|
Lot of countries seem to have a whole lot more deaths than expected since COVID began.
The Economist, as ever, likes to crunch it some serious numbers. Pay particular attention to the numbers coming out of Russia, Brazil, and Mexico. Between the three of them they have almost half a million deaths more apiece than they'd expect since COVID started, reasons not listed. Odd, that.
India's not listed at all, but the numbers some are getting suggests their death counts may be - get this! - 17 times higher than officially listed. They may have as many as 1.5 million dead of COVID already. The past month has been the Black Death over there for India, and the Indian government has been flat stonewalling on it. It'll come out because at the end of the day in the Digital Age you really just can't hide that kind of stuff forever, but the Modi government is trying to keep the slow the public's awareness of just how bad stuff has gotten, and how fast, because they're the ones who opened stuff back up.
We may have gotten our vaccines just in the nick of time, and while we're officially #1 in the world in COVID deaths, that actually does not appear to be true in reality if you look hard at the numbers this excess-deaths chart reports. The governments that handled the crisis the worst, not coincidentally, also seem to be fudging their reporting of the actual deaths involved.
Fascinating stuff.

Significant change in cash out value of retirement plans
May 17, 2021, 7:47 PM

On horizon from both reduced life expectancy and interest rate forecasts. I have cased out but know several Boomers accelerating retirement and lump sum cash out of pensions. It’s a nice feature when available.
COVID-19 deaths are real and understated impacting short term life expectancy numbers. Seems some may be thinking lower long term life expectancies as well. Also actuaries may be betting on higher interest rates as well. Anyway the long term impacts of COVID-19 on all types of insurance including health will be interesting to watch. Financial ramifications will reflect true analysis of the statistics. (Just like the Vegas bookies who set the lines.)

Says...who? 8kun? Alex Jones? Q? Your Pokémon GO app?
Please cite source. I cited The Economist, and they in turn presented an exhaustive footnote list of their own sources for inspection and perusal. You know, as credible sources do. You sonorously utter words like "in reality this is..." and then present absolutely no counter-evidence in your argument.
Do you not know how to formulate a credible argument?
By the way, with The Economist, this is what you're arguing with in terms of credibility:
https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/the-economist/The Economist - Media Bias Fact Check LEAST BIASED These sources have minimal bias and use very few loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes)....

you constantly spew garbage on here, often without a shred of evidence/proof. And we you do attempt to provide back-up for your statements, it's either mis-interpreted "science" or pure BS.

I'll tell my buddy Pasha that. He'll be delighted to know all his relatives in New Delhi were just joshing him.
You've heard of this thing called the Internetz, right? People talk. Like, every day now. It's not just, smoke signals and stuff. Even Indians can tell the difference between starvation and coughing to death, I promise. They're a simple colonial people, but I think they've figured that much out.
Pasha's sending over oxygen and respirators on his own dime to help, by the way. Not canned tuna.

No. This guy lives in Greenville. Former software engineer we used to be part of a medical software startup with. Would make the cut for World's Nicest Human. He apparently lost three relatives last month. (And not to starvation!)

It's #### near impossible to inform those who choose to be willfully ignorant, but here we are, grinding away.
Pretty sure most in this thread think The Economist is a Jason Statham action movie.

And there's some merit to that, because ignorance is bliss.

It JUST hit me what your stylistic use of ellipses and italics reminds me of. You type like Captain Kirk talks!!!! THAT'S IT!!!! Lookit---read this in Shatner's voice:
