Anecdotal story on hiring coaches - Bobby Bowden...

.... shared this several years ago.

Alabama was his dream job. Everyone knew that. He made it clear that was his goal.

After the 1986 season Bama had an opening. (Ray Perkins left.) Alabama called Bobby and asked him to come for a Monday interview. On Monday they told him. "We need 24 hours. We'll interview you tomorrow." He sat around in the hotel all day Monday. On Tuesday they told him, "
give us one more day. We'll interview you tomorrow."

Instead, Bobby got in his car and drove home. "It was clear they didn't really want me."

They hired Bill Curry.

That's the risk colleges take when they are elephant hunting, but trying to lock down a fall-back position just in case.
