McMaster said on Twitter after the vote that he looks “forward to signing this bill into law as soon as possible.”

Well, the Carthaginians did worship Moloch...though Carthage was wiped off the map by the Romans in 146 BC at the end of the Third Punic War. Supposedly the Carthaginians sacrificed their firstborns to him in some sort of fiery bronze cauldron...which is actually supported by Biblical accounts as well.

Dunno what he's doing featuring in QAnon fantasies, but apparently some fired-up preacherman during Trump's term came up with the rather novel theory that the Dems too were secret Moloch worshippers, and to judge from NJDEV's assertion it looks like the theory found a fan club with QAnon adherents.

I dunno, man. Do you Dems secretly worship Moloch, and is all this tree-hugging and socialized health care you guys push just some sinister cover? Because if it's true, NJDEV is onto you, fella, and your wicked ways will not stand. So put down the bronze baby-burning cauldron, and back away slowly.

Is your point that "the law will effectively outlaw all abortions with NO consideration for the rights of the woman?"

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, not at all...

1

May 24, 2023, 1:00 PM

I believe the law limits the term as an effort to cut down on the number of abortions and limit them because the supporters of the law believe that abortions kill babies.

I realize that many don't agree with that and many of those people has respectable positions/opinions on the matter.

But I take issue with the assertion you seem to be making that something under-handed or sinister is being done. From where I sit, the law is out in the open and no one is trying to hide anything.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Okay.

2

May 24, 2023, 1:32 PM

You suggested that the 6 week window is intended to address the issues of rape and incest. Given that they specifically added a 14 week window to address rape and incest, that would be false.

"Unless you're actively trying to conceive, most women don't know they're pregnant 6 weeks." That makes a 6 week window effectively a ban.

You believe those who wrote the bill as well as those who voted for the bill know this and are making no effort to hide the fact by calling it a 6 week ban.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't believe I used the word intended...

1

May 24, 2023, 1:53 PM

I said "it would allow". And I did not know about the carve out on time for rape/incest.

From what I know, I think it strikes a decent balance between completely outlawing abortion and have some provisions for rape/incest (provisions which I support) and allowing some very early abortions.

What about this...if you're sexually active and don't want a baby...take a pee on the stick test every 4 weeks. They cost about $4/ea. Is that unreasonable?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Your "what about this" would result in discovering you're

1

pregnant after 6 weeks in a lot of instances. Or at least close enough to 6 weeks that there's nothing you can do about it. That's the entire point of the bullshít disingenuousness of the law.

Express last night.

But my understanding is that the date of your pregnancy is based on the date of the start of your last period, cycles are typically 28 days, and pregnancy tests are very accurate after the first day of a missed period. So, if'n my math is correct, testing every 4 weeks should identify a pregnancy with time enough to get a procedure, if you want that.

If you evaluate the law based on the fact that many supporters of it don't believe there should be any abortions, then it can be viewed as somewhat of a reasonable compromise.

fertilization and the 4 week pregnancy test cycle you wind up missing it. Pregnancy tests aren't cheap to need to regularly test if you're sexually active.

A reasonable compromise is between 8-10 weeks IMO, but it's such a stupid thing to hang an entire party on.

May 25, 2023, 7:42 AM

again, I'm not a Dr., but my understanding of how pregnancy tests work and when they work and how fertilization/cycle works say that testing every 4 wks should work.

I believe the 6 weeks comes from when you can normally detect a heartbeat in the baby, right?

I guess it's all about perspective...I certainly don't think it's a stupid issue.

Re: Man, just imagine how many Christians will be

Stable households consisting of white Christians and atheists have long wanted to be able to adopt minority children, but had been thwarted by government adoption rules which decried the loss of the ‘minority culture’ during the adopted child’s upbringing.

Therefore, many kids that would be adopted end up rotting in adoption barracks or being crammed into less stable minority homes.

Democrats have long favored this approach; among the Democrats’ greatest fear is a rising population of well raised black people who grew up in white homes and … horrors … would be more likely to be Republicans and therefore spokespersons for conservative causes.

Abortion ‘rights’ are just another in a long line of mantras from white liberals who are privately bigots that don’t care anything about black people.

6 week abortion ban by S.Carolina Senate. S/B 24 weeks

1

May 24, 2023, 9:06 PM

Fetal viability outside the womb should be the demarcation line for the abortion deadline.

The line should be 24 weeks.

Before too long humans will figure out how to modify various non-reproductive cells (I.e., cells other than egg cells) and figure out how to make clones of the ‘donor’ person which will develop into full grown beings that are capable of having sex and reproducing.

It would be absurd to hold funerals and such for whenever a surgical procedure (in which an incision through fatty or epithelial or muscular tissue … in which case many living cells that have the potential to become human life) takes place.

The ‘acid test’ is the stage in gestation for when the new being can live (including with use of the most modern medical technology) outside of the mother-to-he’s body.

Question for the pro-abortion side....

2

May 25, 2023, 8:02 AM

If a six week period for banning abortion is not enough time - then at what point do you draw a line saying an abortion should no longer be allowed? Is it 13 weeks? 16 Weeks? 9-months when the baby is coming out the birth canal? Totally unrestricted?

Reasonable people can debate as to when "life occurs" in a pregnancy but it is undeniable that at some point a living human being is inside the womb of a pregnant woman. It's not some evil right wing conspiracy to recognize that fact and that a lot of people truly believe an abortion is murder.

The problem with the abortion issue is that the zealots of both sides of the issue have taken control of the debate. On one side the zealots want a total ban on all abortions and on the other the zealots want abortion on demand up to the moment the baby is half-way out the birth canal at 9 months.

Back in the day I could support the Bill Clinton abortion stance - abortion being safe, legal, and RARE - with RARE being the key word. But the Democrats lost me when they were coerced by their abortion zealots and industry partners at Planned Parenthood into a position of abortion anytime, anywhere and with no restrictions.

So if I have to choose between unrestricted abortion and no abortion - I go towards "no abortion". I don't like either of those choices but that seems to be where the loudest voices are trying to push us.

The old expression - "a good compromise leaves everyone unhappy" seems to come into play here. Thus my original question - at what point in time would the pro-abortion side be willing to compromise with a limitation on abortions?

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Question for the pro-abortion side....

1

May 25, 2023, 9:53 AM

Why do you think "rare" was more important a word than "safe" or "legal?"

FWIW, a lot of pro-choice (it isn't "pro-abortion" it's "pro-choice") folk thought that adding "rare" to the comment was the kind of mealy-mouthed nonsense that Bill would say instead of just taking positions. I mean, he is the guy who gave us "don't ask, don't tell" and "I did not have have sex with that woman, Miss Lewinsky." There is no reason for anyone to be apologetic about supporting choice.

But to answer your question, 20-weeks is a far more acceptable number as a "nobody should interfere with her decision" point. Viability doesn't occur for a month after that.

After that, I support the right of a woman to make the decision for herself based on health, complications, etc., in consultation with her doctor.

Late term abortion is exceedingly rare and generally not legal except in the case of health issues and fetal viability. 20 weeks is anything but late term.

No more deep routes; get a 1st down

May 25, 2023, 11:40 PM [ in reply to Question for the pro-abortion side.... ]

Bingo on referencing that old adage “a good compromise leaves everyone unhappy.”

Although hating the thought of abortion for the only certainty that it accomplishes … the elimination of possibility for a person to come to life … at some point the game plan needs to change.

Move the ball forward. Get a first down. Tried too many deep routes during the eternal blizzard of the Abortion vs No-Abortion game; neither side ever scored a true TD.

(The ‘Abortion’ team’s RvW TD was overturned after a 50 year review period.)

24 weeks as the OK / not-OK demarcation for abortion would guarantee forward progress on the issue.

Get this first down; then call the next play.
