I fully believe the SEC would love to have FSU and us.The problem is not they don't want us.It is not financially feasible.There is no way for us or FSU to pay for our selves.The first year alone would cost the SEC well over 100 million dollars to bring us in.If you sit down and do the math there is no way to make it work. I wish there was because the SEC is where we belong and need to be.

where does this 100 mil figure come from? the buyout is only 20 mil per team, and the schools pay alot of that....

require a 16 way split of the money vs the 14 way split theyll have now. We couldnt make up for that bc we dont bring in a new TV market. A renegotiation probably wouldnt garner than much more money bc of that.

That's ALWAYS been the problem regarding FSU and Clemson re: the SEC. I think some clemson fans were fooled by the erroneous ESPN report last year that Texas A&M, Missouri, FSU and clemson were all going into the SEC. Most people figured out that was an intentional misdirected leak put out there by Texas Longhorn supporters to sabotage Texas A&M and Missouri from escaping from the Big 12. Texas is notorious for using the media towards its ends.

possibility of the Big 12 making a footprint in the south. The Big 12 could add Clemson, FSU, Miami, Georgia Tech, VT, or any combination thereof. This could give the Big 12 a footprint in the South. No, not as big as the SEC, but at least competitive.

No, as mentioned by others, it all comes down to dollars and cents. No institution nor person is going to take a pay cut. Just won't. We all need to come to the realization that the SEC is never going to be our home. I think most of the fanbase has concluded that.

Forget about it, a sec east with clemson and fsu would be to stacked. Look for them to add weaker comp teams.

Take the $240 million annual new ACC figure. According to Swofford football is 70-80% of that, so take 75%. That's $180 Million.
Clemson and FSU provide, conservatively, one-third of the value of the ACC's football property - so that's $60 Million, or $30 Million each. The SEC is not going over $25 Million with their new deal, likely a little less.
Ergo, if FSU and Clemson were added to the SEC it would actually raise the value on a per team basis, not lower it.

market to the ACC. So. Car provides the SC merket to the SEC. ESPN and CBS (both bankroll the SEC) are not going to pay for what they already pay for. They know that we tune in to watch the rival lose. And as far as brand is concerned, we don't have the following (religious) nationally of a Notre Dame.

especially concerning the SEC because its ABC national outlet isn't used. This constant talk about "TV markets" and the SEC, or any league for that matter, is off base at this level. When CBS is airing a game, it is broadcasting nationally to every single one of its affiliate stations. It's a national product, not a regional product. When ESPN broadcasts, it is broadcasting to its national and international network along the same lines.
It's an important distinction that unfortunately is lost on people like John Swofford who think that adding TV market teams adds value (See ACC case study for measure of failure of this model), and not on the Delaneys and Slives of the world who understand cohesive branding and national product.

You are in for a big disappointment if you expect a SEC

offer. It's all about money. The networks have to see value in adding a team to a conference before they will pay up. That value has to be at least what they pay. We all agree that:
1. SEC teams will not take a pay cut and
2. The SEC already has the SC market.
So, therefore, your argument comes down to "national brand". Unfortunately, Clemson has not been a national power for over 2 decades. We have not finished in the Top 10 since 1990. Nor have we put together 2 straight Top 25 teams since 1990-91. And we don't have a following around the nation like a Notre Dame has among Catholics. Every expansion since the networks started paying HUGE amounts of money 3 years ago has been adding new markets. People writing about SEC expansion (Mr. SEC, Chuck Oliver, etc) say that the SEC will not expand in markets they are already in. LSU's Chancellor said the same thing.
I certainly would like for you to be right that SEC teams will not get more than $25 million annually when Slive finishes renegotiating their TV deals. But I would not count on it. Because we are not going to be invited to the SEC and because I fear just how large a deal Slive will renegotiate, we need to aggressively pursue Big 12 admission and not let someone like Louisville take our spot.
