Hurricane Florence

Sep 9, 2018, 3:57 PM

Keeping an eye on landfall possibly NC/S.C. border Friday morning. Could move inland towards Upstate. Wondering if Saturdays game will be canceled. Worth watching for everyone on coast

Everybody from Wilmington to Murrell’s Inlet best be getting ready for Florence in some form. From initial models anybody from Columbia east to Raleigh, NC will be feeling the effects of the storm. Having been through Hugo in September 1989 I have a recognition of what a major storm can cause even miles inland.

Prayers to all those Tiger fans affected!

Why would they cancel the game? Notre Dame 2015? Georgia Tech last year? Short of a plague of locusts, we’re playing football.

shelves along the coast already - who buys milk on Sunday and plans to stay home when a 140 MPH storm hits on Friday?

Re: Topher - If state of emergency is declared as with Hugo

Sep 9, 2018, 6:54 PM [ in reply to Re: Hurricane Florence ]

in 1989, all HP personnel and many other county resources will be pulled to the Lowcountry. Clemson may not have enough support services to manage game traffic, etc.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And local cops handled it

Sep 9, 2018, 8:28 PM

I recall we whipped Maryland that Saturday after Hugo.

And for it to really migrate to the upstate it would have to make landfall near Georgia, not NC

It was either last year or the year before that they sent all HP personnel away. They can fill in by bringing in other departments around the upstate.

It was last year with Irma... and getting out of Clemson

Sep 9, 2018, 11:57 PM

After that weekends game with local cops instead of HP directing traffic was TERRIBLE. It took way too long because they didn't know what they were doing with traffic flow.

I don't believe either of those involved wind or T-storms

i have well connected contacts at NASA and in the USCG Hampton Roads Sector, both are saying that Hatteras is the likely target. The “F” hurricanes like NC, Fran, Floyd, and now possibly Florence. This one has the potential to be another Floyd in eastern NC with the rainfall and stalling that is being predicted.

Prayers for coast

Sep 9, 2018, 9:00 PM

The game Saturday should be on. The only way it really impacts Upstate of SC is if it comes in around Charleston and then heads directly to the Mountains. The projected path may have it north of Charleston and more like Myrtle Beach/Wilmington NC. If that is the case the area north of Charlotte should really get a lot of rain. If it heads in around the Myrtle Beach/Wilmington area the Upstate is forecasted for like an inch or so of rain and winds could be around 40 mph so I would think game on-maybe just breezy and a little wet and limited police and such but playable. Looks like we will know more by later Monday or Tuesday on the track.
