Monday musing about the D...

Oct 27, 2014, 10:23 AM

Y'all know I love defensive football ... always have.

So, while a lot of folks bemoan our offensive sputtering, I'm reveling in the free-flowing blood and entrails dished out by our D.

But I was wondering: while we all knew the D was going to be solid this year, would it have been as finely honed, so visceral, so brutal, if our offense had been clicking on all cylinders?

Would Clemson still have one of the top Ds in the nation if our lives hadn't depended on it?

And just how good will this team be when DW gets back, the D is laser-focused and we had two old scores to settle in GTech and the Capons.

Pull up a seat, this is going to be good!

Everything in life(yes, even football games) happens exactly how it was meant to be, IMHO. So, this team is destined for something big. If we can just keep strong, beating the coots after 5 loses, will be big enough for me!

And Dye

Oct 27, 2014, 10:35 AM

I was telling someone today that if Dye and DW get healthy, it's going to be nasty for the other teams. This is by far the best defense we have seen in some time. In Syr. third possession, we had our second d-line in and they couldn't do anything!

Just wish we had another shot at the Criminoles!

Love it when you muse about the D, Rev

I really want them to get their props ...

I understand that people enjoy seeing us light up the scoreboard. Makes things less tense late in the game.

But there's something wonderful about looking at an opponent and saying, "We're coming to get you and there's nothing you can do ... "

You and I remember the good ole days.

Defensive football, to me, is my release for visualizing animalistic domination over something while I still attempt to function in a civilized world.

wE ARE WATCHING old time CLEMSON DEFENSE REBORN.

There is just something about removing the will of an opponent and the imaginary "waving of a white flag".

Maybe it is akin to defending home and family, and our football team is William Wallace seeking "Freedom"?

this defense is special b/c of the lack of weakness

Oct 27, 2014, 10:42 AM

in the past, we'd be good up front, but would give up a lot on the backend. BV is able to lock people down on the outside, and bring a lot of pressure.

Even when he drops 7 or 8, we are still good enough up front to get pressure, and stop the run.

It has been very impressive to watch... but I am going to hold off on too much praise until after SCU. Never, ever underestimate Spurrier.

Love this D, especially #42***
