An actual Clemson football post - 3rd downs in the Natty

I was looking at the stats and on 3rd down, here's how Clemson / Bama compared:
Total 3rd downs.............. 15 / 13
3rd downs converted.......... 10 / 4
Avg yards to gain............ 7.8 / 4.2
Avg yards gained, total..... 16.9 / 4.2
Avg yards positive gain..... 22.5 / 14.2
Negative plays................. 1 / 3
Total negative yardage........ -1 / -16
Double digit yardage gains..... 6 / 2 (we had gains of 62, 14, 26, 74, 37 & 17; they had 15 & 48)
That, my friends, is amazing. We had further to go on 3rd downs, on average, but yet did better - significantly - on all of our 3rd downs.
When you look at the overall game stats, they're fairly equal. But 3rd down performance - not just 3rd down conversion - and the turnovers are what turned the tide, um, so to speak.

Still waiting on stats from the White House on how many players went back for 3rd helpings. I'm thinking our 3rd down performance there was pretty good as well!

We won the game on 3rd downs and finishing drives

We got points on every scoring opportunity except the final drive that ended the game. Bama converted just 3/6 scoring opportunities for 16 points.

Actually, Trevor alone was 8/11 on 3rd down for 240 yd, 2tds

If the D tries to take away the 8 yard gain, our O can get the 17 yard gain. I would hate to try to defend our O. TL can put it anywhere; the WRs have a huge catch radius and the RBs run tough and fast. Abandon hope, all ye who enter here.
