So what is the end game here, they go door to door confiscating guns? or they just pass sensible legislation that takes them away from crazyfucks and people with a history of domestic violence? Also, 3 day waiting periods are great, cause that guy that gets super depressed and wants to off himself, 2/3ds of all gun deaths BTW, may have a change of heart in 72 hours.

I no longer own a firearm.

|

The only one I ever had was my dad's 1959 Remington 870 12g pump, but I sold it to a friend for his kid to use skeet shooting.
I don't think this will ever pass and if it does it will be challenged as unconstitutional and shot down (no pun intended) by the SCOTUS.
Plus, the bill also calls for gun owners to maintain insurance sold by the Justice Department at a starting cost of $800 per year. That will never fly.

I would hope it would never fly but these people don’t give a flying crap about the constitution. So , I’m supposed to carry insurance on a shotgun my grandpa gave me 42 years ago??

I am pretty sure they meant the right to bear arms in order to keep a well-armed militia and to kill the wolf that has been eating your chickens. I do not think the founders intended we turn into a bunch of trigger happy pussi>es that are too scared to leave the house without a CWP, that is not freedom, that is fear.
Like I have always said, I can understand why a girl would carry one in her purse, but men have no need for firearms unless they hunt or sport shoot, or keep it locked in a safe as a keepsake.

Men have no need for firearms? So, if a group of thugs come at me I should be able to take all of them on by myself? Sorry bud , this ain’t no Clint Eastwood movie.

and I'm 62 years old.
If a group of thugs come at you they are all likely to have a gun. You need to stay out of bad neighborhoods.

I don’t go to bad neighborhoods and I think you missed the point. The chance of the thugs coming after me is slim to none but I will reserve the right to protect myself. One thug did come at my cousin with a knife in Anderson. He was not in a bad knife. My cousin had a gun and the guy ran off. Don’t tell me it can’t happen.

I'm surely not going to be the fellow going door-to-door collecting guns. Nor would I expect to be the only one passing on applying for the position. Even if they had one heckuva dental plan.
As a practical manner, confiscating existing guns is impossible, and oh, yeah, will get any politician who votes for the measure voted out pretty much instantly anyhow. Not to mention likely shot at.

I just see it as a game of tug of war that will never be won by either side. Both teams appear to be pulling really hard, but they are just going through the motions.

I think crazy legislation gets proposed all the time by both parties. Doesn’t mean it has even a remote chance at passing...or beyond that, holding up in court.

Excluding gun show sales, which Im not familiar with

The government already has all of this information from when you purchase the gun.
“(b) Firearm Registration System.—
“(1) REQUIRED INFORMATION.—Under the firearm registration system, the owner of a firearm shall transmit to the Bureau—
“(A) the make, model, and serial number of the firearm, the identity of the owner of the firearm, the date the firearm was acquired by the owner, and where the firearm is or will be stored

Between your residence and where the gun will most likely be. Of course, there are outliers in this scenario where the guns will be stored at hunt clubs, vacation properties, or on loan... but when in doubt, if the government has a question, they can always ask if they have questions.

K. Thought you meant you had to declare it on the app for a background check. I keep one in the house and one in my ride with a toothbrush, so I'm prepared in case of either carjacking or halitosis.

But it's probably a safe bet that most of the guns legally purchased are going to be kept at the residence where you disclosed for the background check.

I prefer criminal control. Until then, it only makes sense to be prepared in the hopefully unlikely event that some addled, no cash bail released felon decides to make trouble. In the current day, fists aren't much of a match, so I will copy small women sans the purse. I'm not looking for trouble, but have total freedom from fear.
I have had 2 family members who did have to brandish a weapon to turn the tables. My cousin held off a dude who was looking to rape her. My dad at a boat landing avoided being robbed by some good ole boys.
The cops are only there after the fact. Only the dumbest thug tries something with a cop present.
This bill will never pass and if so will never be enforced much less obeyed. Sheila is not the brightest bulb on Capitol Hill. Pissin' in the wind Ms. Lee.

I hope you’re right because sometimes good citizens need to be armed. My cousin was sitting in his truck eating his lunch when a guy came up with a knife and said “give me some money or I’ll cut you”. My cousin pulled out something a grade above the knife and said “no you ain’t”. He only saw heels and elbows after that.

Also, any bill or law named after a person who has died, i.e., a "So and So's Law" should be viewed with intense scrutiny and skepticism.

Should see the responsibility laid upon the user, not the items themselves. Dillldows don't #### people. People with dillldows #### themselves.
If you outlaw em, only outlaws will use em.

Looks like Joe Big Guy would not qualify:
“(3) DENIAL OF LICENSE.—
“(A) REQUIRED.—The Attorney General shall deny such a license to an individual if—
“(i) the individual is prohibited by Federal law from possessing a firearm; or
“(ii) the individual has been hospitalized—
“(I) with a mental illness, disturbance, or diagnosis (including depression, homicidal ideation, suicidal ideation, attempted suicide, or addiction to a controlled substance (within the meaning of the Controlled Substances Act) or alcohol), or a brain disease (including dementia or Alzheimer’s); or

There's a better line that highlights this absurdity.
Feb 5, 2021, 1:23 PM
|

Mentioning mental illness (which encompasses a LOT of areas) but most specifically, depression.
What?
We're not going to allow depressed people to own a gun? Depressed people aren't allowed to defend themselves? Depressed people aren't allowed go hunting? Or sport shooting?
That's absurd.
And if the response is "they could commit suicide," I assure you, not having access to a gun isn't going to slow them down in that area.
EDIT: Oh yeah, let's say this too: The government shouldn't have knowledge of people diagnosed with depression or be regulating what they can buy because of it.
There.

That's the sort of verbage that bothers me.

I take Zoloft for some anxiety problems I developed in college. I have always took it since then, because it's cheap, and if I quit taking it, I become a real d1ckhead to my wife and kids.
It's not specifically for depression, but it is often used to treat depression. Now, no way in a million years should that preclude me from gun ownership... but wouldn't it be a real kick in the crotch if it did?!?
This is all fun discussion, but I really doubt it would ever pass/hold up anyway.
No worries here.
