As mentioned earlier, Dabo was a hot topic today on ESPN U radio

Apr 11, 2022, 10:17 PM

The most intriguing statement I heard today was all about how all the SEC schools and money are going to leave Clemson in the dust. He even said pretty soon we won’t be able to compete with USuC. Then they go on and on about how the wheels are already falling off since we couldn’t win the ACC in a down year. Looks like we are sitting comfortably on that ROY bus once again…but I like being the underdog!

I obviously dont agree with everything said but if you are not concerned about the current situation and our funding disadvantage then you are not paying attention.

I agree. Some fans think that Dabo + devoted fans will fix anything.

Clemson is special. Dabo is special. Our fans are special. But money talks, and if we aren’t able to spend as much as a university (facilities, salaries, etc.) or have enough NIL incentives in place, no amount of “there’s something in these hills” or “Clemson family” will likely be enough to keep us consistently at the top.

If we have an offense that can score over 30

we should win every game with our defense. Jury still out....Go Tigers Beat them ALL!

I think he's talking more about 5 years from now.

Apr 12, 2022, 8:46 AM

our current roster was secured under the old rules. the new rules are about "who's paying the most" which is the current question mark that we all have. We need the ACC teams to start stepping up and being relevant in football otherwise it will be all SEC, Big10 and Pac12 teams that go to the next level.

I'm not sure anyone stepping up in the ACC will make much of a difference for us. What was once our battle cry of "Little ole Clemson" will eventually be what keeps us from competing at the top. It is no longer about "family atmosphere" or "where I fit in" for a lot of these recruits when there are dollars on the table (I don't blame them). Numbers are brutal and honest. Simply put, we don't have the enrollment, alumni base, endowment, or TV market that some teams have. In fact, we are a lot lower on the list than some might think. I have no doubt Dabo will keep us competitive, but I'm not sure he, or anyone, can do much about the green wave taking over college football.

Open your eyes. Our D is great based on the DL which is packed full of elite five star type players. These were all signed before NIL. Do you think we could sign X or Murphy or Brian B in the next class with the current NIL situation? As soon as these guys are gone we will be a different D...

will no longer be competitive in football in 5 years, does the program shut down? And who should we start pulling for?

I don't think anyone is suggesting we won't be competitive. In face, I don't think any team coached by CDS would uncompetitive.
What is being acknowledged is the monumental financial disadvantage we have when compared to several programs. We have always had that uphill battle but we were able to offset that with our atmosphere, coaching family, etc.

Now that numerous recruiting decisions are entirely money based, it has neutralized a lot of the other things we offer. Maybe that's glass half empty thinking but our recruiting numbers are already slipping. Do we just write that off as a temporary dip or a sign of things that are occurring?

It’s really tragic kids have let NIL $$$$$ become one of the top reasons on their list for selecting where they attend college and play football. Have true college football fans finally lost the battle to the almighty dollar?

Marcus Camby went to OU because of the money and Barry Switzer ruined his career as a football player. How many kids will be sacrificed in the new era of college football??? Sad sad times!

Parents? They are not neutral in this matter. They see the money and looking to cash in on their son's talent.

I’m not sure the battle is lost, because it could be that in a few years folks will become disenchanted with the green wave when they realize they are being sold a bill of goods. The old system may be collapsing, but I think the new one could become a train wreck. There aren’t really any rules. It’s the Wild West. At some point the push back and close examination of programs might force adjustments. We’ll see. I think a lot of kids will be damaged by this new world. Dabo is attacked for similar comments, but I think ultimately he’s right, so time will tell.

No one can foretell the future--especially not ESPN. We are heading in the right direction with NIL. I'm staying optimistic.

I will be interesting to see what happens at Texas A&M since they have transformed their recruiting based on NIL. They already have more DLs than they can play. Will they be able to repeat their success? How many players will transfer because of insufficient playing time? Will their recruiting make up for Jimbo's coaching lapses?
