To those doubting Clemson's 2014 offense...

Aug 25, 2014, 11:58 PM

Just remember that Chad Morris came to Clemson in 2011 and took one of the worst offenses in the country and built a completely new offense around several unknown players (just like this year) and turned it into one of the best offenses in the country. And that was in his first year.

Why would you expect any sort of drop off with players who know the offense front and back? All of our players were still learning the offense that year. Yes, many of our players are unproven this year, but so were Tajh Boyd and Sammy Watkins and look what Chad Morris did with them in 2011.

Don't doubt. Believe.

They just think since all of the super stars on offense are gone that there is nothing left. I love that they are all under estimating Stoudt. I think he comes in and turns a few heads. For one he is taller(Heather Diedrich) and he doesnt have to move around the pocket to see down field like Tajh had to when he was throwing the ball down field. I think his football IQ is higher. Boyd was a great QB, he had his WTH moments but who doesn't in college. Stoudt has been in EVERY meeting since 2011 and knows this offense. He has did his time and it is HIS time now. He will come out ready to show the country why HIS offense shouldn't be taken lightly.

My concerns about Stoudt........

Aug 26, 2014, 8:20 AM

Stoudt has the advantage of height and the ability to go through the progressions better than Boyd. But, his mobility and ability to throw the long ball remains to be seen. Boyd's mobility bailed us out of many a situation last year and if Stoudt is both mobile and accurate downfield.....we'll be fine. we'll know Saturday!

I think you are not given Stoudt the credit he deserves as far as his mobility is concerned. Boyd was not the most mobile QB in the country-especially his first year and he did just fine.

I think Stoudt is shifty enough and will make plays with his feet as well.

One of his few opportunities to run and he made the most of it.

I've read that Stoudt is faster than Boyd

Aug 26, 2014, 1:37 PM

Not as thick obviously and shouldn't be counted on to pick up a lot of 3rd and short's by running between the tackles, but he's not a statue.

Dang - I didn't realize so many had the same opinion of Stoudt that I've had for the past 2-3 years. Personally, I feel totally comfortable knowing Stoudt is running the O. I don't care if he can't throw a football thru a brick wall. I just like the way he controls the game, protects the ball, and how fast he makes his reads to find the open guy. I'm good - ready for the Dawgs to feel the pain.

I hope it is just like 2011 and you guys fall back to the 26th best offense in college football. That is what happens when you get new guys. You guys have been explosive but I think you will take a slight step back this year. What has your Oline done in the past(not their recruiting ranking or what they did in high school) Actually, what have they done against other college talent) I know you RBs are unproven at the college level.

With the exception of Mike Williams, who is a sophomore, our offense is all juniors and seniors. On defense we are starting 2 sophs and one RS freshman (Alexander who was a 5* and the #1 CB in the nation) Scar has 6 sophs starting.

Since you have TWICE as many players that are not jr's or sr's, I would say you have no clue what you are talking about.

Again, don't care what a player did in HS. because it doesn't matter. How many games did your Linemen appear in last year? Just because upperclassmen are starting doesn't mean they are good. I am looking for actual depth numbers, not we too strong we too deep. For instance, our line is young but every player on the line played meaningful snaps last year, is that also true for Clemson? Your RBs have not played meaningful roles in you offense, T/F?

You are going to believe what you want to believe, but this is what I know: We have the BEST OC in the country. No one thought that we would have a 1,000 yard rusher last year, but guess what. This year we have more talent and depth at the position, so there is no reason to believe we cannot duplicate that. Expect to see Watson in along with Cole and another RB and try to pick to see who is going to get the ball. Gallman may be the best of the bunch, if not him then maybe Choice who has the exact rating out of HS as Mike Davis.

Battle-Third most knock down blocks on team last year
Beasley-Mean and probably a late round 2015 pick next year
Ryan Norton-Most snaps and knock downs on the team last year
Davis-500 snaps last year and in the best shape of his career
Gore-A guy that the coaches love, had limited snaps last year, but knows the system and will be an upgrade at RT from last year.

Either way, Morris can take nothing talent and make it into a good offense, but this offense is anything but nothings. They are mostly 4 and 5 star talent. We do not rebuild, we only reload.

Get out of here with that logic.***

Isn't Beasley suspended for the first game? Probably shouldn't include him in your lineup argument.
