bullying programs working out? I'm sure kids that are different, physically or otherwise still get teased some. It was awful in my day. Of course, we all got bullied somewhat by upper-classmen, but it was horrendous for poor kids, kids with disabilities, effeminate kids, obese kids...

Your question reveals your leftist bias.
Bullying still exists and if anything is worse because today (compared to 30+ years ago) because there is no ability for teachers/principals to maintain discipline in the schools.
Being smart is not cool, and to the black kids, being smart = being white. And, they are taught not to like whites, so what is the result?
If black kids do homework, behave, and get good grades what does that mean? It means they are acting white and they get severely bullied and ostracized by their "own." So what happens? Just look outside and you will see what happens...

I’m not basing anything in that post on my school experience. I’m talking about experiences of my kids and others I know going through public schools. Have you been on a school board or had a close relative on one?
I’m talking about first hand experience I have tutoring black kids from the projects.
In other words I know ### I am talking about. If you don’t have experience with kids in schools you are ignorant. Or maybe you do have kids but you were not involved or your kids didn’t talk to you.
Yeah my attitude sounds crappy on these posts, but you people are horribly obtuse. The USA is sunk with so many of you out there.

How did race get brought into this??? You do know that bullying happens everywhere, right? It's great that you volunteer with poor black kids. But your experience in volunteering does not make you an expert on the "ills" of the black community.

kids can't get away from it, unless they are forced to unplug.
One of my daughter's friends who she has known for 10 years tried to commit suicide this past spring because it was so bad. She's better now, but it was still devastating to her and her family.
Teenage girls are brutal.

I'll add, I can clearly remember my dad telling the principal/vice principal to whoop my ### and he'd whoop it again when I got home if I misbehaved seriously.
Think there are any parents like that nowadays?
(I'm not advocating for ### beatings at school, just acknowledging parents treat their kids like they're little angels)

Growing up in the New Jersey Public School system was a lot like entering a prison. You had to get into at least one fight if you wanted respect, and it was the poor kids that did the bullying. I got in a fight with a kid that had a knack for bullying underclassmen, you know, the type that was smoking since the 7th grade. Looking back I imagine his dad was probably an alcoholic that beat the #### out of him too. He is probably in real prison.
