Some tidbits from DRad Zoom meeting with DC Clemson Club

AD Dan Radakovich was very kind to speak to the Baltimore/Washington, DC Clemson Club via Zoom today. He was a last minute stand-in for Graham Neff, who was originally scheduled to appear.

Just a few things I remember from our lunchtime call. It was open to all Clemson Club members, so I hope I am not speaking out of school with anything mentioned here. If any other T-netters were on the call please add for points I may have forgotten.

To me, he seemed to indicate that Clemson is ALL IN for the ACC. He seemed to indicate we are locked into our contractual obligations with ESPN and ACC grant of rights through 2036.

Agreed that SEC payout long-term is a concern. Adding Notre Dame to the ACC seemed to be main ambition for the ACC to help close the money gap. Interestingly, he doesn't think money is a driving factor for the Irish, noting they have plenty of money including a huge endowment.

Said we have sold 58,600 season tickets so far (all time high of sold season tickets was 59,200).

Talked about bringing media rights in-house with a 501-C3 entity known as CAPCO (Clemson Athletic Properties Co.) to cut out the middleman and indicated Clemson and previous media right firm had disagreements.

Mentioned male/female ratio at Clemson went from 54%M/46%F in 2012 to 50%/50% now. This originally led to cutting the men's track program but ended up with Clemson instead adding women's programs in Lacrosse and Gymnastics.

Noted Clemson should earn $4.2-$4.5 million for UGa game in Charlotte. It replaced a home game vs. Wyoming which would have netted Clemson $2-$2.5 million. Said we don't do neutral site games often even though make more money because it hurts Clemson community businesses.

Indicated Death Valley will be getting new LED lights for 2022 season. Will use existing light poles. Although it didn't sound like a final decision has been made but they may not be the fancy light show type that were originally planned, similar to what Alabama and UGa have. Seemed to indicate those fancy light show type lights were not making the splash that was originally expected, per his contacts at other schools.
