team in college football in five years or less. No one can compete with both their market size and volume of wealthy alumni. If you don't believe it you are not paying attention.

Texas might be able to field a pro team to match Southern

Cal's. But I can't think of too many other universities that could match their payroll. And we all know, in the Saturday professional league there currently is no salary cap.

Is it any surprise the center of all NIL shenanigans right now is LA and Miami?

Just like Texas A&M, they are buying their team.

Miami has been buying players for 40+ years. Now that it's a free for all, of course they will be the center of it. Southern Cal also has been known to offer previously impermissible benefits (see Reggie Bush). We may see a future of college football that includes a division 1 (the teams with deepest pockets for NIL), a division 1-A (teams like Clemson, Louisville, Colorado, Ole Miss, etc that have history and/or some financial backing) and then rest of the current FBS schools (Vandy, MAC teams, AAC teams not named Central Florida).

Not a bad take but I’m going with A&M until someone proves me otherwise.

Also.. never sleep on Bama while they have Saban. Their alumni might not be the wealthiest but they’ll give everything they can.

Yeah kinda like us. Don't sleep on Clemson.

If some of those old backers of SMU from the 8o's are still around, thins in the state of Texas could get interesting. Too bad that Pickens died before he could help Okie State.

Your comment is exactly what I was thinking:
All of the Texas teams, Pickens and OK St, etc.

SMU’s facility upgrades coupled with their NIL will move them into the top 25.

can easily

Ohio stat graduates 76,000 students a year so even if they donate 1 dollar.. they can stay in it.

Georgia fans will sell their mobile homes if it wins football games.

I'll defer to PACIFIC BEACH TIGER®

But having spent lots of time in Long Beach over the last 15 years, high school and pro ball seem to have eclipsed USC Football. Not saying it could not re-emerge, but more fans IMHO seem to follow the NFL ...

What say you PBT and west coast Tigers?

You, and many others, are making a huge assumption that simply buying a new collection of players year after year will translate into great teams.

I disagree with that assumption.

We’ll see.

But do those alumni care about football? We've seen shades of this in the SEC. Jerry Jones, the only NFL owner with a NCAA championship ring, lured a coach from the NFL to his alma mater Arkansas. It would have worked too if Petrino didn't load his side piece on his Harley. I think it takes a combination of alumnae size, wealth, and commitment to football. I see Texas A&M (already bought a NC coach) and OSU (largest alumni association and student body in NCAA) as the schools most likely to benefit from NIL.
