What am I missing about Wisconsin?

Recently they had always been a Rose Bowl contender, had a stable of great backs, one of the best rushing attacks in the country, a top 20 program. Yet their coaches leave them for Arky and Org St?!!! Programs (especially Or ST) that are not even in the same atmosphere as Wisconsin. Maybe its Alvarez being too hands on with the program? Realization that the big ten is a dumpster fire? Whatever it is, its gotta be big to leave a big time program to be oregons 2nd class whipping boy and jim bob duggars butt buddy in arkansas.

How many schools in the country do better in both sports? Ohio State? Michigan State? Arizona? Louisville?

says they aren't going to pay the big bucks to their coaches and get into the bidding war that other school's do.
They are notorius for underpaying their coaches...similar to Penn State. Joe Paterno was only paid $527,000 in his final year...that is beginning, first year money for head coaches at most schools.

At Wisconsin, the Athletic Director (Barry Alvarez) is larger than life.
A head football coach there has Alvarez looking over his shoulder all the time.
Can't imagine that would be very comfortable

I think it's actually a couple of things....

BB left to go to Ark because he could not get anymore money for his assistants and probably partly to get out of Alvarez shadow and maybe to go coach in "sigh" the SEC.
The Oregon st move I think was mostly due to the guy being a Utah native. Going back to the Northwest. I bet partly is how Alvarez comes down and he got more money. Pretty simple really

who said Bielema never got along great with the administration and fanbase. His move was only shocking to me bc of him being a midwestern guy and having so much success in Madison.
The move to Arkansas isnt a downgrade really. They have a large stadium, a great fanbase, a much better recruiting base, a rich history, plenty of coaches who have won there. There are much better jobs to move to and is really only a downgrade in perspective since its alot tougher to win in the SEC West than it is in the Big Ten West (or whatever its called).

their neighboring states because i don't think arkansas high school's produce that much d-1 talent. zac brooks was arkansas' mr. football for his sr. campaign , with 650 rushing yards and 9 td's with 5 more td's via receiving. although in his defense, he did have some injuries that year (2011), i would assume that you are right about the recruiting base as far as skill position players, but i would venture to guess that wisconsin produces more linemen with d-1 talent. i would personally consider them to be fairly even positions.
p.s., arkansas definitely has better weather!!!!

I live in Wisconsin, so I can provide a little more information. Bielema left because he was dissatisfied with the money paid to his assistant coaches. He had just lost several the year before to Pitt. Andersen was unhappy with the high academic standards of Wisconsin. He was unable to recruit the players he felt he needed and the academic program was unable to accept juco players. Barry Alvarez was very successful at Wisconsin. But, the template he used for success needs to be changed.

Rumor is that Barry Alvarez is difficult to work with.

He's also a legendary figure up there so the HC has to play 2nd fiddle to the AD which is pretty unique in college football.
