This is what I've been waiting on. Can't wait to hear the reports coming out of this scrimmage. I think whoever wins the starting job a QB is going to be great. We have a good stable of talent there. Don't get discouraged if the stats coming out of this scrimmage are not where we tend to think they should be. Just remember that these guys are likely going against the best defense they will see all year.

That's right - if the offense can move it

against our D we have little to worry about.

I hate it when people say we are going up against the best defense in practice. Confirmation bias

Not bias. We have one of the top defenses in the nation every year under Brent Venables. There is enough talent on the defense this year that this may be the best unit since he's been here. If you have kept up with Clemson recruiting you would know the potential on this roster and when you mix that with one of the best if not the best DC in CFB you will have one of the top defenses in the nation AGAIN. I am far from being alone in this opinion.

I agree, I think a lot of guys are going to get shots at showing what they can do so I really don't expect huge stats from guys unless one just breaks out. I see all 4 RBs getting good snaps as well as all 4 qbs including Chase Brice coaches have raved about him. The kid is just a player and has the attitude you want to see in a kid but with all the qb talent here and coming idk if he will ever be the guy but who knows. Also I really wanting to see how KB stats are throwing the ball. Didn't show much improvement in spring game but did mess his pinkey up one of the early possessions so I'll cut him slack on spring game lol. He is fast as a deer and if he can improve throwing I can really see him keeping the starting job but that's IF but coaches have said best week he has ever had at clemson to start fall camp. With QBs once it clicks on in their development the game changes it slows down for them and they just get it and perform some take longer then others for that to happen hope that has happened with him. Would love to see local Upstate kid to continue the building of the foundation of our dynasty to come! Go Tigers

It's times like these I wish I could morph to a bird and see the scrimmage and hear the pads smack. Look forward to the post reporting a summary of the 'clash of the titans!'

yikes, looks like Caldwell, the OL coach, is critiquing Bryant's passing. that's probably not going to help. :)

"Making the right decisions ... making the plays that are

Aug 12, 2017, 9:43 AM

there ... eyes on the right things ... making the right reads ... consistency ... making the fewest mistakes ..."

"Kelly Bryant has had a really good fall camp ... the best week he's had his entire career"

No surprise, it's what I expected, but it sounds like we're being given a not-so-subtle hint as to how this is all going to play out. I honestly believe we are super talented and deep at QB, and I believe Dabo when he says we could win with any of these guys. I also believe that they are all pushing each other, and that the competition is real, fierce, and close. I would not be surprised if a starter was not named until game week. Having said all of that, I believe and have always believed that starter will be Kelly Bryant game 1.

Nobody deserve it, but I'm sure he has worked hard enough to take it for now. We have QBs with as much or more talent than KB, but KB has more experience in our system than any of them, and our coaches are going with the experience. That is just the way it's done until the more talented gets some experience. At that time, it will be time to reevaluate them again. Sports is about the best with game experience at that time of need. It can be cruel, but it's all about what gives a team their best chance of winning!!!

I believe that also, and I'm hoping that with Dabo and our offensive coaches knowing that KB will start regardless of what happens in the competition between now an the first game, they should give KB most of the snaps from now to the first game. Just say keep fighting guys bc, when you are called on, you better be ready or we will call on next man up. As much as they want to keep them all, when Trevor Lawrence comes in, and if he plays college FB as expected, 1 or more of our QB stable will be looking for a greener pasture. It's great having a problem like that with so much talent. It works the same way in the pros, they will bring in more than they will need, and keep the best of what they believe they will need.

Re: "Making the right decisions ... making the plays that are

This is the mentality that causes recruits to leave and de-commit. Why come to Clemson is the competition is based on seniority? Really stupid and idiotic thing to say. I'm sure Dabo knows that the QB will make our break our season and his career. One of them is the best and it's up to him to figure that out.

Re: "Making the right decisions ... making the plays that are

Now you are insinuating that these kids are stupid, and that their HC in HS are stupid. They come to Clemson believing that they are better, and are willing to come in and prove they are better. Just like Trevor Lawrence has said, he didn't worry about who we had, or who was the starting QB at Clemson. He said that he was confident in his skill and could and would compete against any QB any where. 99% of the QBs that sign with Clemson say and feel that same way. They even feel that with one slip up or injury from anybody ahead of them, that they can and will take that job. All the teams that have good QBs year in and year out, thay have good QBs committing right behind them. That is how schools like Clemson, FSU, Bama, and others have good to great QBs waiting for that spot, and they will take it anyway they can get. The type of QBs that are coming out of HS are just like any other position, they only need 1 or 2 years in college to be a top pick in the NFL. If you don't think that is true, Mitch Trubisky says hello from NFL Chicago Bears. Mitch Trubisky was a one year starting QB for UNCheat. What ever you are accusing me off, change it, these 4-5 star QBs in a good system on a decent team are going to the NFL with only one or two years as a college starting QB and make it....

I get that point but you were just talking about getting experience is key but want KB to get most of snaps until game 1. To give other guys experience you need to give them snaps against the 1s during fall camp not just mostly KB JMO. Don't want to give them just 2nd and 3rd snaps and then let them get experience in games, yea game experience is very key but like I said need to let them get experience against a 1st string defense in scrimmages and practices as well so they are prepared for games against other starting defenses. I do agree KB will start game 1 but we will see few qbs and think against auburn we will only see top 2 qbs and 1 getting most the snaps after first couple possessions if made a big separation between KB and prob HJ.

Morris used to say the cream will rise to the top! I think 4 QB play against Kent State. 2 or 3 will be ready to play against Auburn. We are going to be running the QB a lot more this year than last year. We had DW last year and we had to protect him. This year we will see the offense.

They get experience in mop up duty in games we have won before the end of the game. This is fall camp right before the season starts, and KB should have as many practice starts as possible before the actual first game gets started bc the second game is Auburn, the game that KB needs to be sharp and comfortable with the first team and with confidence. As the norm goes, the more practice he has, the better he should play.

Also TL tho I do think he comes in as an early enrollee and performes, you never really know until they get on campus and start playing CFB. I think he knows he's going to have to fight it out with these guys but if we have our qb this year whoever it is they perform really good and we say make it back to the playoffs ( which I love how everyone is sleeping on us bc I love our team this year and think we will be really good and make it back) then it's going to be hard for TL to just come in and be starter or even become a starter by the end of year. So TL which like I said I think will do big things and be a amazing qb for us just never know if it will be in his first year or not. Just a thought

Curious title D.Hood - really believe jobs are up for grabs?

Aug 13, 2017, 2:58 AM

So which jobs are really up for grabs? Safety? DB? Right Tackle? Special Teams? XP holder?

Looks from a T-Net distance that things are pretty locked down with Dabo even calling a pick-six "bad luck on a good decision." We old-timers pulling for the Tigers for 35 yrs plus are used to quality coach speak, and Dabo is the best ever. So seriously, can you shed any more light on which jobs are actually up for competition? Thanks ...
