Per Charlie Pell, smoked a cigar in cool lowcountry air...

Nov 28, 2021, 7:34 PM

..last night with my oldest son, as we always do after a victory over the chickens; felt like "the good ole days" to me from the 70's and 80's. And the cigars were high-end Swisher Sweets "Cherry Dynamite" from the Estill Dollar General to boot..:).

I hear that you can get some better cigars to smoke in those parts like the Alex Murdaugh vintage series.

Murdaugh stole enough money to buy Cuban cigars.

Not many people know of the grandeur and vastness of Hampton County and the seclusion of the low country bottoms except for us avid hunters and plantation owners like yourself. Few people know of the fine cuisine found at El Zarape or the Steak nights at Lester's (order in advance). The fried chicken from Bobops is a staple. Lastly, don't trust your soul to no backwoods southern lawyer!

..there was a restaurant/pool hall in Estill know by various names as it passed through a multitude of owners: Harold's, The Mark VII, Betty's, Shari's and Ernie's, sadly torn down just a few years ago...

I remember Shari's and Ernie's but the previous names may have been before my time. It was a great place to eat. I remember it well... I make the trip down there about 2-3 times per years to hunt when the wife allows.... ;) However, I lived in Rincon, GA for about 8 years so we would load up the family and venture up 119 & 321 to explore. I have been back in the upstate for the past 14 years.

I played golf some in Furman.. The name of the course escapes me. I had a Guyton address but it was closer to Rincon. I still keep up with several folks from Effingham. I hunt between the thriving metropolis of Garnett and Scotia. It's a small world.... Hit me up on T-mail some time and I can tell you some more crazy stories over a Lester's steak. I know one similar to the Murdaugh case that took place in Springfield right after I left. You probably know what I am referring to because it was on Dateline 20/20;)
