Position Grades from last night (long)

QB:C Deshaun looked like he was pressing all night long and never got into his groove. He missed some pretty easy passes that he normally makes 10/10 times. That being said his back should passes to Williams were simply perfect. As the announcers said that pass is impossible to stop. Still we know what we've got with Watson and he'll be fine.
WR:C Mike Williams gets an A for his utter dominance of any CB that went against him. That fumble was not his fault as it should have been blown dead when an Auburn player THAT WAS OUT OF BOUNDS knocked it loose. He did drop a few passes he normally catches but over 150 yards is elite. However the rest of our WRs aside from Renfrow didn't show up and that will need to change as teams double Williams. Again I'm not concerned. Once Watson finds his groove so will the WRs.
TE Leggett reverted to his old self last night. False starts, not wanting to block, and showing a lack of effort that earned him the nickname "Lazy Leggett". Auburn is the exact team where Leggett should have dominated but he was a non factor. That needs to change or the young guys need to take his snaps
OL:B The OL didn't open huge holes to Gallman but they held their own against one of the best DL we're going to face. Check the depth chart, Auburn can go 10 deep at DL and every one of those players are 4 and 5 star guys. I was very encouraged that Lawson didn't seem to make an impact. Fruhmorgan played great and I am encouraged about this unit going forward. Gallman still got his 100+ yards and that is in large part due to the OL
RB:B Would be an A for Gallman except for that snafu of running out of bounds. Still he got his yards, punished LBs and picked up pressure very very well to keep Deshaun clean.
DL:A The DL was dominate. Auburn has 2 all SEC OGs and our DL owned them almost all night long. Lawrence's is a manchild the likes of which we haven't seen in decades. Good Lord that combination of speed and strength isn't fair. Add in Wilkins is great no matter where he plays, true war daddy! Ferrell's first step is lightning quick for a guy that size. He was in the backfired before they handed the ball off at times. Watkins and Pagano are solid, strong and immovable. All in all this group is full of monsters.
LB:B Jospeh showed why the staff trusts him so much. He reads plays very fast and plugs his gap expertly. Our MLB position is not the easiest to learn yet Jospeh looked like a natural. He also pushed Auburn's C back into the QB by himself so you know he has the strength to be a star. Boulware was great all game as well except for that idiotic late hit out of bounds. If he doesn't do that then they probably don't get that cheap TD. O'Daniel played well as did Williams though he did get burnt by the TE on that possible TD pass in the end zone.
DB:B They played sound and aside from one long bust that I put on the CB they didn't give Auburn any cheap points. Carter, Fields and Tankersly were very solid and I have faith in them moving forward. It was great to see Wiggins back on the field with his speed and high FB IQ. He knows what the QB is going to do probably before the QB does and he exploits it. A healthy Wiggins can play all 4 position in our secondary so I love that we have him back. Our safeties did well. Jadar played a very sound game aside from a bad PI. Van Smith has a nose for the ball but didn't get caught sleeping on the play action. I'm encouraged by the way they played.
Coaching:C This was not our best coaching job by the offensive staff. They didn't challenge all areas of the field like they should have. We should have attacked the middle more with Leggett and Renfrow imo. We didn't look like we had a true game plan either. I expect this to get worked out very quickly. Our defensive staff is light's out though. No issues there.
All in all a win is a win. I'd rather be us than LSU or Choklahoma

I like Mike but the fumble was his fault. Lack of ball security. get down once you've gotten what you can. he played great otherwise

Mike Williams came to play, the other WRs struggled...

Renfrow made a great grab on a clutch throw from DW4, but he also struggled to get separation from Auburn's DBs early on. WRs have some work to do.

Good summary

I was impressed with our D, but I need to watch the game again to make sure I'm not being overly critical of the O. I didn't understand some of the play-calling strategy, either.
* One of our staples has been strong right (H-Back behind the RT) to either attack the strong side off-tackle, or counter to the left. I only saw that base formation one time all game. We ran left strong more than not - perhaps the coaches didn't want to put too much on Jake Frughmorgan, or maybe we thought the left side would yield better line movement.
* No TE throws to the flat - again a function of no TE on the strong side to run my favorite play "Strong left, slot, spider 2, Y banana"...
* No "sluggo" that I saw (except Hunter Renfrow's TD route) - Mike Williams did miss a couple of slants - so maybe Auburn was dictating where we could throw the ball. We probably tried sluggo more than I saw and maybe Auburn covered it up.
* I can only believe that Dabo was concerned about special teams, since he didn't try the FG at the end - otherwise a terrible call.
* Kick coverage almost let an Auburn player get loose on a return by over pursuing, but our guy recovered (barely).
We've got some work to do, but it's hard to say what we have from that game, as Auburn also has a very good D.

Meant "Strong right, slot, Spider 2, Y Bananna".

Disagree. Auburn's front 7 are just that fast. Their defense was solid all night.

Overall I'd give it a C+....

and the fact that the team can play at a C+ level and still come away with a win on the road in that environment is very encouraging.

I saw it and am glad he stepped up. However that should be the norm not the exception this point in his career

Special teams: D If it wasn't for a penalty, they had a great kick return out to the 50. Short snapping was awful on extra points and field goal. Change is needed here
