Let's play "Who is the bigger bee hole?"

Jun 27, 2022, 11:20 AM

I know this may conjure some early August style mange talk, but it must be risked.

So the aforementioned Dwight Yoakam show was a the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium, a place with seats. Pleases with seats always cause problems at concerts. Most folks were sitting by the 3rd song, my crew begrudgingly joined in. Three were a handful of people a few rows in front of us that elected to stand, ####### move once all those in front of them had sat.

Probably the same number of rows behind us were people who eventually started to yell "Sit Down," after every song. Then Dwight breaks into a story and they really turn up the yelling, making it so people could not hear the story.

So, who is the bigger ###? Those standing, preventing somebody from seeing the stage OR those yelling and preventing parts of the show from being heard?

Why do you need to stand at a concert with seats?***

drunk at the putt putt.

Same reason you stand at a football game with seats.

Jun 27, 2022, 11:35 AM

Also, the same rules apply. If one can see without standing they should sit save for select moments.

Why do you say that?

Jun 27, 2022, 11:36 AM

Yes, they are impeding view, but one can still see. It can be argued that talking over the artist is rude to both patrons and the artist.

They should have been more respectful to the people behind them.

NOW....when it comes to Clemson football on 3rd down...F whomever is behind you still sitting. OR if its a really close game on EVERY defensive down....F em.

Jun 27, 2022, 12:41 PM

I got yelled at by a friend at Phish a few years ago

We were on the floor and our friend was on the front row of the lower level. We were talking to her and her husband and the lights went down and Blaze On started. My buddy and I were discussing where to go and she yells "don't talk during the show!" She was right, we shut up and gestured where our next move was going to be

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

For sure. I have a BFF that always talks during concerts

Jun 27, 2022, 12:58 PM

Panic could be playing a song they haven’t played in 100 shows and dude is trying to talk to me about life… so annoying.

As far as the sit down or stand I think that’s up to the show, some people sit and others people always stand for it. Panic I’m always standing but some lame show I will sit. Also if I sit at panic or phish it’s bc I’m chilling and need rest, others can still stand.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Jun 27, 2022, 11:50 AM

If you're near the stage, expect to stand, seats provided or not. If you're on the floor, expect the person in front of you to stand. Heck if it's a good band, expect person in front of you to stand in his chair. Respect the artist, don't sit there. They WANT you to stand and be involved.

In a small bar with tables maybe that's an exception. If the audience standing and being into the music offends you, seems you really don't want to be there that much.

Seats are for the drunks and disinterested to go hang out in the upper deck or way in the back. Or grassy areas at amphitheaters.

Now, this is for a concert where ENERGY is present and important to the atmosphere of the show.
I don't go to many classical music concerts or recitals, I'm sure protocol is probably different for those.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't disagree with you, but that isn't

Jun 27, 2022, 12:02 PM

reality. Especially with older acts having older crowds.

I stand when I can but not to the point of being rude to someone behind me. Now, if those in front never do sit, then those behind me have to stand or accept not being able to see.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

potentially bigger-er beehole.

Coincidentally, it's re: juan of the Ben Rector concerts I'd mentioned in Rocky the Tiger®'s thread last week

Got SheGUAR tix to see him at the Peace Center for her bday a few years back. We were first row in the balcony, so no stand/sit issues to be had.

however, the bish behind us thought that singing along to every ####### song at the top of her non-talented lungs was included in the price of her (and everyone else's) admission

even the 'quieter' songs....i think he even did an unplugged-ish tune or two, no mics or PA or whatever, but all we heard was her.

Basically, we saw Karen Jr. in concert that night, with backing from Ben Rector.

There are few bands I like enough to mingle among the

unwashed masses for this very reason. Local joints are a different story...but in a big arena/venue where you have to deal with these issues is a bridge too far.

The last show I went to was Armin van Buuren, where sitting/yelling are moot issues.

by all means, hoot 'n holler

but when when 1999 out of 2000 people are being silent to listen to a man sing his song his way, take a hint

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Had that happen to me at a Genesis concert a LONG time

Jun 27, 2022, 1:13 PM [ in reply to I'll see your bigger bee hole, and raise you a ]

ago - a couple singing at the top of their lungs to every song - INCLUDING the drum break in In the Air Tonight . . . .

AND THEN - nearly date rape each other in between every song.

And they were both dog ugly - so nothing to see.

The Ben Rector show was great - beautiful night, great folks around us, a good breeze so you couldn't really smell the vomit & steaming urination cloud that is apparently available 24/7 in the Broadway, Printers Alley, Music Row area.

I like the guy - he can write a song - tells a story - kinda like a modern day James Taylor without the tarhole doooooshiness - so better, and more talented.

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

Jun 27, 2022, 12:37 PM

No question about it

Anybody ever get yelled at in church for standing or throwing their hands up filled with the holy spirit? If you can do it in church, you can definitely do it at a concert

That venue does look more like a sit in your seat type place, but I still hold that standing is totally acceptable at a show. (unless you are being a total doofus)
