2nd best Clemson Tiger qb ever

We all know who is the best, who do you have as the 2nd best to ever line up behind center for the Tigers? For me it's Tajh Boyd. Acc career leader in tds and elevated our program to a level we hadn't seen since the 80's.

It is simple----to me, you have to beat the coots. DW4 did it every year he was here and so did Charley( 4-0) .

Steve Fuller! He started the great run of Tiger football teams in the 70s.

It's real simple. 4 questions:
1. Did you lead Clemson to a 1 loss season and Top 6 final ranking in the polls? 2. Did you finish in the Top 6 for the Heisman Trophy? 3. Were you a First Round draft pick? 3. Did you have a nice NFL career and win a Super Bowl ring?
Steve Fuller can answer YES to all 4.
Boyd & Whitehurst are both 0-FER-FOUR.
Thanks for playing, we have some lovely parting gifts for you. Next question please.

Steve Fuller was also named an All American QB, was a 2-time

ACC Player of the Year, and an Academic All American. I'm pretty sure the 2-time ACC Player of the Year and All American in both sports and academics in the same year are still records that haven't been broken. So you can add #5 to the other 4 qualifications above.
Fuller is 5-for-5. Everybody else is 0-fer. Sorry, but just because you're too young to remember it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Tajh Boyd hands down

This isn't even a question. There is no Deshaun Watson if there isn't Tajh Boyd. Not to mention the way he represents Clemson. He's the epitome of what it is to be a Clemson Tiger.

I agree...shame how so many folks on here are bitter since Boyd didn't have wins over the Coots. Like you, Boyd is absolutely 2nd.....one of the top 4 Acc Qbs, ever.

"I'm different and I don't care who knows it" -Homer Jordan!

He won us a National Championship in 1981 and sometimes I watched him barely able to walk on the sideline when the defense was on the field, then go back out there and run for 15 yards and take monster hits, get back up and do it again. His will to win was incredible. And he was a better passer than most people give him credit for.

Glad he won that NC...WONDER what the other 119 guys were doing. Hahaha...j/k. All kidding aside, that Championship team was solely based on our Defense just holding ppl off while the offense tried not to lose games.Sure 84 pts against Wake...but that team was really really bad. Homer was efficient at what we needed, but that was probably about it. Respectfully #21

Our defense that year may have been one of the best defenses ever. Off the subject but one night at a Clemson meeting the MC introduced "Levon Kirkland as Clemson's Greatest Living Linebacker"! Levon got up and joked to everybody that he was now very sad, because he didn't know "that Jeff Davis was dead because as long as Jeff Davis is alive, nobody else can claim that title of best living linebacker". But back to Homer, he ran the option better than Fuller his last two years, he was a lot better passer than people gave him credit for being(ask Tuttle or McSwain) and his offense was predicated on ball control, not quick strikes. He did have quick strike ability, I saw him throw a SIXTY YARD in the air TD to McSwain against Virginia and could change games with his legs. The last drive against Nebraska was basically him running the clock out by himself, keeping the ball to avoid bad pitches, and making yardage, then taking horrendous hits.

The question isn't who is 2nd..

It should be, who do you think is 3rd. In many ways, Tajh Boyd was just as good as Watson. I think DeShaun played on more of a complete team which enabled him to get over the hump. After these 2...I go, Dantzler,Whitehurst,Fuller,Greene, then Harper.
And no, not Jordan! Pls #21

My top 10:
Apr 12, 2017, 11:39 AM
|
|
1. DW 2. Fuller 3. Tajh 4. Woody (could have won a NC with Rodney and Morocco's teams) 5. Homer (great passer who didn't get a chance to pass very often) 6. Whitehurst 7. Mike Eppely 8. Rodney 9. Nealon Greene 10. Harper
