After reading article about paying players has anyone thought

Jun 5, 2021, 3:34 PM

Of the implications of Florida players and Florida schools, or other states that don’t have income taxes?
Will this help players who go to Florida schools once they establish residency in Florida?
Players that come to us from the talent rich state of Florida who keep their residency in Florida would not have to pay taxes even attending out of state?
I’m not a tax expert that’s why I’m asking.

Municipalities with pro sports gets around this by taxing in the locale the games are played, they get paid on a per game basis so the city, country, state all get their cut.

I can assure you that state income taxes are going to be some of the least concerns in a new era of college sports. There are lawyers ready to pounce for Title IX issues, schools looking for solving equity issues from sport to sport in same school along with satisfying gender inequities only to spprtsc

The fact it isn’t the school paying the players is going to help them a lot with title ix compliance.

You are correct and in normal world, I would agree 100% but people are looking to create and vocalize any type of dispute as loudly as possible.

But with NIL, you know part of the recruiting of players will discussed in terms of school notoriety and how that will be beneficial to exposure for marketing purposes to help feed the athletes Social Media. Schools will start feeding exposure opportunities to players so they can say while recruiting that players on this team averaged "x" dollars which is 30% higher than UGA Football player SM monetary intake. Once certain dollars are exposed, once discrepancies within the school's sports team are publicized especially if it's gender oriented in same school like Mens Basketball vs Women's, and Men get to play in West Coast tournament and women's did not, then the school gave men more exposure to help market them and build their NIL vs. the women, now automatically the school is liable for inequities in marketing opportunities.

Believe me, it's going to get this insane as it has already started. ND is already being sued for Title IX "Equity" verbiage just 2 days into the return of on campus football recruiting. ND thought it would be nice to recognize the return of potential recruits to campus by putting up billboards at several campus entrances welcoming football recruits. Well Title IX lawyers already declared suits stating that other sports don't have the funds to support that type of recruit marketing. So not sure of outcome but this is an immediate example of schools liability when womens basketball probably wouldn't have the budget for billboards. With the non-specific, unregulated, carte blanche, govt mandate to afford student athletes to make money from the schools exposure to audiences (alumni, tv, students, etc), schools automatically create monetary opportunities and if the school offers "Tiger Walk" for football players, other sports could request same opportunities and if not provided then that school is creating inequities among student athletes.

This is going to get this crazy, hence my recent thread about College sports post 2021 and future getting ugly.

Curious how much this will change the mindset of IPTAY donors?
