Race in America - a personal observation.

Apr 21, 2021, 7:41 AM

I work with members of the construction trades every day, have for decades. I also encounter business owners and members of the general public from all walks of life, all ethnic backgrounds, from all over the country, sometimes the world. This includes a lot of African-American and Hispanic people, many of whom I've come to know quite well. Funny thing is, I don't get any sense of racial strife or dissatisfaction with America at all. We talk about it ocassionally, and it's just not there, or at least it's not a major factor or concern. It's just people working, joking, laughing, and living their lives. It's clear to me that the media totally distorts and drives this BS, and social media gives the noisemakers, which make up a relatively small percentage, a platform.

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

Pretty much what Charles Barkley got blasted for....

Apr 21, 2021, 8:20 AM

I don't disagree with this quote from him:

“Yeah, but the one thing I took out of that piece was, man, I think most white people and Black people are great people. I really believe that in my heart. But I think our system is set up for our politicians, whether they’re Republicans or Democrats, are designed to make us not like each other so they can keep their grasp of money and power. They divide and conquer. I truly believe in my heart that most white people and Black people are awesome people. But we are so stupid following our politicians, whether they are Republicans or Democrats. And their only job is, Hey let’s make these people not like each other. We don’t live in their neighborhoods. We all got money. Let’s make the whites and Blacks not like each other. Let’s make rich people and poor people not like each other. Let’s scramble the middle class. I truly believe that in my heart.”

Gaetz, DeSantis just to name a few.

Barkley is 100% correct.

TU - don’t doubt or discount your observation. But it’s also

Apr 21, 2021, 8:44 AM

apparent there’s a significant defect underneath the surface for many in the Black and even the various Hispanic communities.

It bubbles to the surface from time to time; it needs to be addressed; I’m just not sure how. The media accentuates the defects and politicizes the differences in people’s positions. Why_ because it invokes strong emotion. and it sells. The media doesn’t create, just magnifies.

Figuring out what that defect is and trying to fix it is a good thing.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would argue the media both creates AND magnifies but

Apr 21, 2021, 9:10 AM

certainly there would be some issues to magnified.

Still, I don’t think there’s much more harmful to American cohesiveness than the current narrative that 1) no matter how you get along with a minority, they are angry and resent you, and 2) no matter how nice a white person is, they ultimately want to keep minorities down and are taking advantage of a systemically racist country.

It’s just all poison for our collective souls.

Like said above, Charles Barkley is right. We can always do better but at the end of the day, most people are good people just trying to do good by their country, friends and family. If we focused more on that we’d be a lot farther along.

Admittedly Q creates (LOL). It’s a blurred line. Personally_

Apr 21, 2021, 9:35 AM

I never feel blamed, accused or resented by any media or minority communities for being a white male. Oh occasionally there’s a little noise, but it barely bounces the needle on my personal “VU” meter. Charles has a lot of common sense.

(Hopefully you have sufficient tenure to understand the VU meter reference.)

your personal experience and observations mean jack squat. Besides being incredibly biased and unable to watch the floyd video and understand that a serious crime had been committed, something a lot of us did 1 full year ago and came to the same conclusion as the jury, you have been on the wrong side of the argument on almost everything.

Hope that clarifies things for you, I'll go back to telling jokes being that I am a ####.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You're totally full of ####, wrong about everything,

Apr 21, 2021, 10:03 AM

and part of the problem. Only a total idiot like you doesn't realize that I have said from day one that Chauvin was responsible for George Floyd's death. It also takes a special kind of stupid and arrogance to be so oblivious to one's own massive bias while so wrongly pointing out that of others.

maybe I will make it even MORE clear, your personal experiences in life about race are as relevant as mine on internal medicine. Hopefully, that came out better. But yeah, you are one rung short of calling whites victims, and I take issue.

meant, and I can assure you, no jedi mind tricks here. I have always thought Chauvin was in the wrong, and have said so many times. That has always been my position. No tricks, no games. If you think otherwise, you are badly confused, and your unhinged ranting looks even more silly.

I'm glad this is the work environment you experience and that you and your coworkers have this relationship, but this is hardly a valid sampling of what happens throughout America nor is it substantial proof to condemn "the media" for how they handle these issues.

We can find plenty of examples of not-so-harmonious race relations in work environments.
