Not profound, but my opinion on the demise of college ..

Dec 3, 2021, 9:08 PM

football.
1. Transfer portal. Way too easy for overhyped kids to quit and look for greener pastures. In my opinion, less than 10 % will improve their situation.
2. NIL. The perennial cheaters have just been told that they are now legal. The rich will get much richer.
3. Schools which follow the rules will be at a tremendous disadvantage. Apparently, integrity is no longer valued.
But to #### with them, Go Tigers!

Integrity is disappearing very fast in our country.

Add to that the SEC

Dec 3, 2021, 9:31 PM

and the obvious financial support and propaganda support they get from ESPN making college football a one conference league with all other conferences moving towards lower tier status. Makes college ball more boring if you ask me. The vast amount of teams from all over the nation made college football far more interesting than the NFL. But now it seems to just be all about the SEC.

It’s not just the SEC. ESPN has a few favorites around the country to fit their narrative, including Oregon. Most of the PAC 12 Championship game last night was sickeningly described through the lens of “This is a setback for Oregon’s program”. They honestly couldn’t believe a team with low ranked recruiting like Utah could destroy a high profile, Nike-backed team twice in the span of a few weeks, plus one that had knocked off the Buckeyes. They did not really celebrate Utah’s accomplishment as much as go into mourning over Oregon.

You think college football was more interesting in the past? You think there is now less interest in college football? You watching coaches salaries?

Transfer portal has relegated

"commitment" of an athlete to basically one year at a program. Now AD's and coaches are in the carousel. Conferences re-align not even according to geography. Coaches dump their commitment, go to another school, change their accent to the new area... Add NIL in, and we basically have a semi-pro league now. No, it's actually worse. Sense and sensibility are in upheaval. Integrity is waning. I'm having to shield my eyes/conscience.

And we're all on the Earth Titanic anyway (heat dome over US while we fly coaches to their new schools in helicopters, refrigerate everything....)

You're right, but as I guess it says in the Book, "let us eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we die".

Unfortunately I think we are seeing the demise happen very quickly and quicker than I had imagined.

The schools (because let’s be honest why does the NCAA still exist?) need to figure out a way to govern themselves to make a more level playing field and to adjust for the transfer rules and the NIL. For one, more scholarships will be needed with this transfer rule.

Case in point college basketball. The level of competition and play is no where near what it used to be. The player you are pulling for has about a 65% chance of being on the team the following year. I don’t even watch it anymore not even the tournament unless Clemson gets in.

That was a beautiful sermon, Pastor, but we are the choir.
