Does anyone know what is going on in the 4th play of game?

Oct 13, 2013, 11:15 PM

The offensive line never comes out of their stances when the ball is snapped. They appear to remain there for the entire play. Weird. Check the tape (about 14:03 remaining in the first quarter). Hope someone has an explanation. Driving me nuts, particularly since no one else has mentioned it!

When they think the defense has jumped offsides, they stay

Oct 13, 2013, 11:17 PM

still. It's to show that they didn't move, and it's on the defense.

Actually, it's to prevent any holding calls on the O-Line

on what should amount to a free play for us if the defense did, in fact, jump offsides. Problems can arise when they do this and the supposed offsides is not called, like on Saturday.

Also did it against Syracuse to set up the screen for brooks***

Yeah, I thought that was creative

Teams know we do that sometimes, so we used that scouting point against them in that instance.

DBs and LBs cannot read thier keys so although the blocking

isnt there, the defense is slowed down a step or two.

Its a gimmick play, but it works occasionally.

I think it's ridiculous that we come out running 2 trick plays on the opening drive. At home, against a clearly inferior opponent. Line up and play football - save that stuff for when it's needed and when it matters.

I think it may have been a contributing factor to our never getting into any kind of rhythm on O the whole game.

Trick plays give your next opponent something else to worry

about as well.

Sometimes you run it early in the year...

to set up your opponent for a bigger play off the same look. A case of looking a few games down the road.

You tell coot

We did it earlier in the year and threw back behind them

on a screen. This time Tajh threw out to the right off the rollout. Probably figured they would be looking for the screen on that type of play start.

We have run that play at least 3 or 4 times, including against Syracuse. Designed to freeze D line and linebackers while pass is thrown out wide.
