Lol...a "super-conference" to rival the BIG and the SEC full of powerhouse programs like Wake Forest and Oregon State.

Absolutely brilliant.

Coast to Coast Conference. That would be interesting. My wife is an Oregon Duck, so she would love to see Clemson and Oregon play on a regular basis. A super conference with an Atlantic and Pacific coast division champion playing for the conference title. Travel would be an issue.

With all of the chatter and rumors right now, who knows what is going to happen. Just hope Clemson lands well. I'm old Jefferson Pilot, so I hope the ACC survives in some form. I really don't care for either the Big Ten or the SEC, but if it is in the best interest of Clemson, we will adjust.

The TV rights is what is killing us. I think doesn't expire until 2035. There is got to be a way to renegotiate that like adding more teams or even ND as football school in the conference.

Reminds me of when I was a young boy...about 12 or 13 when

Jul 5, 2022, 9:54 PM [ in reply to Re: Heavy chatter now on ACC and PAC deal. Here we go again. ]

my dad first started letting me take the little 14 foot aluminum boat with an old Johnson 18 horse motor out by myself when we were at the lake on vacation. It was all I could do to pull the rope hard enough to crank it. Anyway, when it would rain so hard that the water got a little deep in the boat, I would crank it up, hit the throttle and pull the plug out and run wide open until all the water had drained out....THOSE WERE THE DAYS!!!

i still do that regularly. i keep my 14ft 86’monark at the dock behind the house. For whatever reason I just haven’t put in a bilge with floatswitch. After every rainstorm I tell my wife “going to run the water out the boat” Then i get a nice 30min ride out on the Res.

We need to do what is best for our university and the viability of our athletic programs especially football as it funds almost everything else. Right now the disparity of dollars is massive and it will only increase in the coming years. Regardless of what it takes, we need to find a way to exit the ACC, it is a sinking ship. Preferably the SEC over the B1G as it would allow for a more favorable travel experience when wanting to travel to away games and immediate rivalries.

Laughable especially the conference game championship in Vegas. Guess they assume we will no longer be invited to the playoffs.

Any deal that would keep Clemson competing in championship FB, but if I had my choice, I would rather see Clemson attached to the SEC where all the ESECPN lies make them into the greatest conference in the history of college FB.

All those big time recruits that we miss out on that would only commit to an SEC conference school, we would get as many of those guys as Bama or any other SEC power FB school bc Clemson is just a better environment for recruits, and I'm not just saying that bc of my bias for all orange, the recruits tell that story themselves, even the ones that will only play in the SEC bc of their life time of brain washing about the SEC being the best conference to get to the NFL!!! Getting the type of recruits that we do get now, plus the recruits we would get if we were an SEC school, Clemson would be just as good or better as any of the big time competitors in the SEC on any given day, week, or year. And Clemson has already shown that we can go toe, toe with the best two teams in the SEC, as in Bama & Georgia!!!

Jul 6, 2022, 6:30 AM

Big 10, ACC/Pac, At-Large, maybe a Big12, and 3-5 SEC teams.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Not when it goes to 6 or 8 teams...

Jul 6, 2022, 9:45 AM

NO at large teams.

If the SEC and BIG form two 20+ team leagues there won't be any at large bids. They're not going to share revenue.

They will not be willing to share revenue because it reduces their per-term-payout. They can make more per-team if they keep the championship in-house.

(a 24 team ACC/PAC12/BIG12 alliance would not generate nearly as much revenue as a 20 team BIG, or SEC conference)

I think the next thing to come is the teams in playoff get the money not the conference. I think the bamas and uga are tired of sharing with the vandys and the #####.

Re: Heavy chatter now on ACC and PAC deal. Here we go again.

would rather see the ACC pouch the BIG12 for some of the Texas area teams instead but at least this is something positive. I will be moving from Maryland to Arizona next year so maybe having the Arizona schools mixed with the ACC would be good.

Jul 5, 2022, 9:50 PM

This isn’t the worst idea, really.

Coast to coast. Good programs on both sides though only a couple contenders for football. Would be easy to implement an East-west division system. Wouldn’t have a whole lot of blue blood types but #### those guys anyway.

I’d rather be associated with Oregon than most of the sec or b1g…

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not a big deal in Football. But,

Jul 5, 2022, 9:54 PM

In other sports that are played through the week the travel schedule for the "so-called student-athlete" would be immense! Electrical engineering exam on Wednesday and you're on a plane on Tuesday headed East. Would have to be a tough thing to swing.

For football, no big deal as you could easily limit the number of trips and ensure it's only a few games a season.

Re: Not a big deal in Football. But,

Jul 5, 2022, 10:07 PM

With a true East-west setup it could basically be regional schedules with very little coast to coast travel. Mostly only play the other side for a couple “crossovers” and championships.

Jul 5, 2022, 9:55 PM [ in reply to Re: Heavy chatter now on ACC and PAC deal. Here we go again. ]

I like the idea of playing some of the midwest schools. The ACC just needs a plan to get some more teams/market into the conference to then be able to renegotiate a better TV deal.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

agree

Jul 6, 2022, 10:57 AM

This is what I sent to DRAD last July

Merger ACC and PAC 12 with ND and select Big 12 schools ….. create a truly super conference .

As you know the old regional stuff is out the window; it is all what product can you provide for TV. The Big Ten, even with new SEC, will be in a good spot so they can sit tight or add a little if they want. It is the ACC, PAC 12 and remaining Big 12 that need a big time game changer. For once it is time to go big and even out do the SEC. Even it does not work you can always break it up, as we have seen conferences fall apart all the time. You know how the contracts would need to read, etc. So here it goes:

ACC/ PAC Northeast
Notre Dame
UVA
VT
Pitt
WVA
BC
Cuse
Louisville

ACC Southeast
Clemson
Miami
FSU
UNC
NC State
WF
GT
Duke

ACC southwest
BYU
Baylor
Utah
Colorado
Ok state
Texas tech
TCU
Kansas State

ACC West
Oregon
Oregon state
Washington
Washington state
Arizona
Stanford
Arizona state
CAL

-For Clemson 7 games a year are still "regional" and easy to travel to. Actually schedule is better as get Miami and UNC every year unlike now. I will easily trade those two for Cuse and BC

-for an incredible TV ratings and big contract you have a league "playoff". Winner of Northeast plays winner of Southeast in Charlotte. Winners of Southwest and West playoff semi-final in California/Arizona withConference Championship in Dallas. Clemson vs. Oregon conference title would rival SEC Championship.

-This playoff scenario may only mean you can play 10 games but so what, 10 games of great product. Play a 9 game conference slate and leave one spot for rival games. You play you 7 Division foes then kind of like ACC/Big Ten basketball challenge you kind of set matchups before season starts. Clemson v. Washington

Again it may mean long travel for one or two games a year but so what for the match-ups produced.

-You could create a mini "NCAA Tournament" for Conference Basketball tournament. Top three teams from each division make tournament along with 4 at large spots. So 16 team b-ball tournament. UNC, Duke, Baylor Cuse, UVA, Arizona is a tournament that would have incredible ratings. (who cares about the ACC tournament now, it not what is was before NCAA went to 64 teams. Most teams if they win it nice but really playing for NCAA). This tournament set-up is must see TV

So what if only half the league makes tournament, the SEC does not allow all baseball teams to make SEC baseball tournament.

Same thing for baseball. Top 3 in each division, 4 at large. Arizona, Stanford, UVA, FSU, Arizona State, OK. State, TCU....like a mini college World Series.

Ok I admit this is huge and may be you can do this through some alliance and not an actual conference. But the TV product this could produce is unbelievable. Obviously a lot of numbers would have to be crunched but can't see with these brands, conference playoff, etc how this not be huge dollars.

In this day and age, have to think big, big. I mean is it much different than SEC speculation about going to 20 teams?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would really hope that it doesn't morph to point of doing a CCG between the 2 leagues

Jul 6, 2022, 1:18 AM

b/c it almost seems like a white flag from both leagues of "we don't think we can make the playoffs w/o this". Our 2015-2020 run, along w/ FSU's 2013 & 2014 seasons, have proved an ACC team is more than capable of being a national title contender.

However, IF the Pac-12 & ACC survive this, I wouldn't be opposed to seeing the ACC get the Rose Bowl bid from the Big 10. Would be bigger payout than our current NY6 tie-in to the Orange Bowl based on what I've been able to find. Or maybe seeing some variety in scheduled opponents
