ACC Effect IN Polls. Let's see.

Oct 2, 2022, 2:12 AM

1st. how far will FSU and Nan cee Stank fall in the polls?
If they were in a couple other conferences: "not far"!
Will the ACC effect cause these teams to drop farther than they deserve?

Georgia barely beat Mizzou; who is really struggling to be average teams. An ACC team(Clemson) did that on the road and the media acted like "we lost"! But, Georgia likely gets a pass.

Bama, when they should have lost to Texas(currently a Big 12 team).

Michigan allowed Iowa to score it's highest point total all year; and they probably struggle the most of any offense in the Big 10. 27-14 and unranked. Clemson has been in the top 4 and has gotten penalized for narrow wins!
This is where the "perception of the league" comes in. The problem with that is: "it's not real and is mostly smoke and mirrors"! The very top of those other leagues are the best or among the best in the sport. No doubt; give credit where it's due.
But, that's where it ends. Nobody is scared of scar or mizzou or vandy or most years ole miss or miss st.
It becomes a self-fullfilling thing because if you are always playing and losing to an overly bloated ranked team; "you get a pass"!
Why isn't Syracuse ranked yet? Heck Duke too. They both beat Big 10 teams(Northwestern and Purdue). Let those same teams play a close game with Ohio State and even if they lose they get ranked(for a close loss).
Some people get it; some people don't. I think the people who get it actually take a moment to process what the people on the Tube are telling them to believe about "league strength"! 2016 the ACC won the Capital One Bowl Challenge with a 9-3 record and a National Champion.
But, $$$$$$$$$$ isn't in the ACC like it is in other conferences so it didn't get blown up and exaggarated.
Let's see what happens; but I wouldn't be surprised to see some funny business! Peculiar, if you like that better.

It's a long season. Just win baby

No one will remember or even care about the Wake and Mizzou games when Clemson and Georgia play and beat Top 10 teams.

What is interesting though, is that no team in the Top 5 seems dominant right now. CFB is grueling, and there is more parody than ever. Any P5 team can take you to the wire if you don't come out focused and put them away early. We have to be ready next week up in BC.

College football has allowed ESPN to drive

the narrative, and despite arguments to the contrary, lazy poll voters follow the network's leads.

Of course, that lead will always be focused on what makes them the most money, which is primarily the Deep South hotbed of football; i.e. the SEC. Admittedly, over the years I have preferred to watch SEC games, even over most of the ACC games. Yet, to me there is no rocket science involved in understanding the network's agenda...they're in business to make money; hence, they will always promote their greatest money-making product...one way or the other.

This is why I suggested several years ago that the CFP should have originated with eight with the CFP polls moved earlier in the season, thus rendering all other polls insignificant at least, obsolete at best. Part of that revision should have included bold, stark statements declaring all other polls irrelevant.

When and if the CFP expands, then the Committee needs to have the prescience to adopt more strident control, as I have mentioned to create even greater parity. Probable outcome? A weak-kneed kowtowing to the likes of ESPN.
