ACC better watch out with expansion.

Jul 22, 2021, 4:12 PM

So glad Wofford isn't commissioner. At least we have a chance.

Worst case scenario:

Big Ten gets ND, WV, Cuse, BC, Pitt (That is a geographical fit for them.)

PAC 12 takes the best of the rest of the Big 12.

What does ACC do then? (And, that is assuming Clemson stays in ACC.)

Who is left for ACC to go after? UCF, USF, Memphis, Houston, Cincy?

No good options. It could get ugly.

The ACC's exit fee is $50 million...

The teams currently in the ACC aren't going anywhere.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

It’s not just the exit fee. It’s the media rights they can’t take with them until 2036 that prevents the ACC from a further breakups.

Makes you wonder if a name change is in the works. It would be odd having Houston(gulf of Mexico) in the Atlantic Coast Conference

Why would the big ten expand to 19?***

Good point. Just throwing those names out a possibilities. What if they picked up 4 of the them? Or even 3??

The Atlantic Gulf Bojangles Chicken Sandwich Conference.

"AGBCSC!...AGBCSC!!...AGBCSC!!!" Take that SEC!

Notre Dame

Jul 22, 2021, 4:48 PM

If Norte Dame joins any conference before 2036 it has to be the ACC. That was part of the original agreement. With the expansion of the playoffs to 12 teams, Norte Dame has no incentive to join a conference.

Actually, I think it puts more pressure on Notre Dame to join the ACC in football. Let’s be totally honest, last year is the most relevant Notre Dame has been in decades. Why? Because they were in the ACC and going head to head with Clemson. It’s the only time they’ve been in the playoffs. Notre Dame, whether they realize it or not because of their arrogance, needs the ACC more than the ACC needs them. But now, if Texas and Oklahoma go to the SEC, the ACC and Notre Dame are gonna need each other.

I agree. Could get left behind. At the very least

Wish the ACC would’ve gone hard for Penn St. Much prefer their tradition and national fan following than krappy Pitt, BC and Syr. I’d trade UNC for Georgia since they (mutts) think they can run the ACC. UCF USF are trash additions. Miami nor FSU would allow them in.

Im not sure ACC needs to do anything quickly. With 15 members, (excluding football) conference already resembles a super conference. Would really only be one shy of a 16 team SEC. Let them clobber and eat each other alive and coots sink further down into the SEC cellar.

A dang good thing Clemson and FSU didn't go to the Big 12 a few years ago when THAT rumor was out. But the ACC has a lot going for it. One of the strengths Pitt, BC and Syracuse brought to the table is their big populations and potential TV viewers. (Yeah, I know Syracuse is not that big, but NY state is and the Orange is their premier football school.)
