ACC and GOR

Jul 4, 2022, 9:22 AM

I know that there are occasional upsets but, I feel that the following ACC schools want to be relevant in football:
Clemson, Florida State, Miami, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Louisville, and Virginia Tech. Since Notre Dame is contractually obligated to the ACC, they could be the 8th school or throw in Pittsburg. These are enough schools to break the ACC and get our of GOR. How do these schools need to proceed?

I wish one of the schools would leak the GoR contract. It’s never been disclosed publicly in it’s entirety. Perhaps there’s not a lot of good news on how to overcome the contract without going broke abiding by its terms or spending years in court with a losing hand.

Clemson would win anyways. (Even if we have to pay)
We can get it back in 1 year of being in the SEC. Our TV contract is laughable…

Have the conference pay the tab and deduct from the yearly payout. Still miles ahead of where we are now.

That’s not how it works. The GOR means any money we make on a TV deal - even if it’s the SEC deal - gets paid to the ACC. We would not make any TV revenue.

I did not realize that it worked that way.
I still think it’ll be okay. Because if Clemson and FSU leaves, it opens up ESPN to renegotiate the current TV deal. (Same as if ND joined and brought more revenue.) ACC would have absolutely no value to negotiate.
This would cause the ACC to fold, if it folds then there is no buy out or GOR to worry about.

Three choices

Jul 4, 2022, 11:36 AM [ in reply to Re: ACC and GOR ]

To me Clemson has three choices
1. Be in a group that exits and breaks the league
2. Act alone or with Fla State and negotiate a buyout
3. Sue for mismanagement of assets

To me option one is the cleanest but option two could be a possibility. Option three is too risky.

I have seen it said that the GOR isn’t valid. To give your rights you have to receive something in return for it to be a valid contract. What have we received from the ACC?

And don’t say money from TV rights- it’s OUR media presence that is being sold. In fact, Clemson is a net LOSER as our media rights would be in excess of $100 Million a year based on going rates. We have effectively given money to Wake, Duke and others.

If you think we would continue winning at the rate we are winning if we changed Wake, BC, Cuse, GT into Georgia, Florida and any of the schools in the SEC West you are on a small limb. Yes, with continued good recruiting, we could have 10-11 win seasons but would that get us into the SEC Championship game and the Playoffs?

It depends on the year. Yes I think we would continue to have success and easily make it to the SEC championship game very often. There’s only 2 teams that would give us a run. (Bama and Ga), but again it depends on the year.
I feel certain we’d fair pretty darn well.

Also, how good would it feel to win the SEC before our little brother!?!?

Taking it to the courts would drastically reduce it or get rid of it, or they move and just make smaller payments spread out while they make 100+ million a year in a new conference. The GOR isn’t gonna hold anyone from leaving.
