The ACC, Big Ten, and Pac-12 Alliance announced plans to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Title IX through a multi-pronged campaign entitled “Celebrating 50 Years of Title IX TogetHER.” The announcement and campaign logo unveiling coincided with National Girls and Women in Sports Day, a national event that inspires girls and women to realize their full power through participation in sports.

The ACC announced its championship dates and sites for the 2022-23 academic year. The ACC currently sponsors 27 sports (14 women, 13 men), soon to be 28 (15 women, 13 men) with the addition of women’s gymnastics in 2023-24. No Autonomy Five conference sponsors more than 28 sports and the league’s 27 for 2022-23 is the second most. The soon-to-be 15 women’s sports will be the most of any peer conference.

Fourteen ACC players were taken in rounds four through seven.

Ekwonu, the 2021 ACC Jacobs Blocking Trophy winner, is the first ACC offensive lineman taken in the top six picks since Virginia’s D’Brickashaw Ferguson was selected fourth overall in 2006.

Johnson’s selection gives the Seminoles at least one pick in 39 consecutive NFL Drafts, a streak that dates back to 1984 and is the eighth-longest streak in the country. Miami DT Jonathan Ford (seventh round) continues the Hurricanes’ 48-year streak of a player selected in every NFL Draft since 1975 – third-longest in the nation.

Women's Basketball
For the 17th consecutive year, the ACC had at least one student-athlete selected in the first round of the WNBA Draft, as the 2022 edition was held April 11. That streak is the most of any conference and the next closest is eight. The ACC had seven student-athletes selected in the WNBA Draft, which tied for the most of any conference. Louisville forward Emily Engstler was the first ACC player taken in the draft when she was selected by the Indiana Fever with the fourth pick in the first round.

Baseball
Nine Atlantic Coast Conference teams will be among the 64-team field when the 2022 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship gets underway Friday. The ACC has placed at least six teams in the NCAA tournament for 18 straight years. This is the sixth year since 2010 that at least eight ACC teams have landed spots in the field. This year’s nine teams are the second most in league history, trailing only the ACC’s 10 selections in 2016.

Two of the ACC teams selected this year rank among the top five nationally for all-time NCAA tournament appearances: No. 2 Florida State (59) and No. 3 Miami (48).

Led by tournament MVP Vance Honeycutt, North Carolina claimed the 2022 ACC Baseball Championship, defeating NC State 9-5 in the title game at Charlotte’s Truist Field on May 29. The ACC title is the eighth for the Tar Heels since the conference began determining its champion by tournament format in 1973 and the program’s 12th ACC baseball title overall.

Sunday’s sell-out crowd 10,500 set an attendance record for an ACC Baseball Championship title game. It stands as the second-largest crowd ever to watch a college baseball game in the state of North Carolina, topped only by the 11,392 that watched UNC’s 2-1, 18-inning win over NC State on the fourth day of the 2013 ACC Championship at Durham, North Carolina. The previous high attendance for an ACC Championship title game prior to Sunday was the 9,759 that watched Florida State defeat NC State in 2015 at Durham. The total attendance of 58,837 for this year’s ACC Championship is the fifth highest in tournament history.

There were 54 home runs hit in the 15 games played at this year’s ACC Baseball Championship, topping the previous tournament record of 51 set in 2010 (in 13 games) at Greensboro, North Carolina.• With his four home runs during the ACC Baseball Championship giving him 27 for the year, NC State’s Tommy White set the NCAA Division I single-season freshman home run record. Thanks Tony. Great read. Despite what some goobers on here think, it matters to Clemson what the ACC does.

Perfect example of what college athletics are all about. Of the thousands of athletes in all of the sports mentioned, there are very, very few that receive even $1 in NIL money. College athletics are about giving young men and women opportunities to receive an education and fulfill their dreams of playing their sport on the college level. Football makes the money that allows schools to field all the other teams but it is only part of the picture of sport.
