How can anyone disagree with this, it was abundantly clear with Trevor that he got worse each year and now with DJ…. If it looks like a duck, talks like a duck and sounds like a duck,,,, it’s a duck.

I see part of his point. Both Deshaun and Trevor looked better and more fluid/natural their freshman year than their sophomore years… statistically they weren’t very different or even better later but from a natural big play comfort level they looked better their Freshmen years than their junior.

You really believe that D.Watson was better in 2014 than 2015 or 2016?
We're not watching the same games.
You really believe that T.Lawrence was better in 2018 than in 2019 or 2020?
Clemson's D was all-time-great in 2018; Clemson's O-Line was blessed with upper classmen studs in 2018. WR Corp had Tee Higgins & Amari Rodgers & Justin Ross; T.Etienne had gone from exciting freshman in 2017 to super stud best-ever in 2018. OF COURSE, with that supporting cast, T.Lawrence 'looked better' in 2018 than in either 2019 or 2020.
Trent Dild_ is a dump-sheet.

Why are we still talking about Trevor Lawrence & Deshaun Watson! They’re gone & we need to be talking about our present team which ain’t worth a crap. Offense or defense. The recruiting we’re doing is not playing off. I don’t know if our coaches have lost their touch to actually realize what a good player is but something is not working fir our recruiting.

Well here are the stats and you can argue all you want.
DW4 stats and QB rating went down slightly each year after 2014, which was a partial season, with the exception of TD passes but overall he was pretty consistent.
DW4 Basic Clemson Stats
2014 - 8 games, 14 TDs, 2 INTs, 188.6 Rating, 10.7 Y/Attempt, 67.9% Cpmpletions
2015 - 15 games, 35 TDs, 13 INTs, 156.3 Rating, 8.4 Y/Attempt, 67.8% Completions
2016 - 15 games, 41 TDs, 17 INTs, 151.1 Rating, 7.9 Y/Attempt, 67% Completions
TL16's stats improved slightly each year with the exception of INTs in 2019. Again, very consistent.
TL16 Basic Clemson Stats
2018 - 15 games, 30 TDs, 4 INTs, 157.6 Rating, 8.3 Y/Attempt, 65.2% Completions
2019 - 15 games, 36 TDs, 8 INTs, 166.7 Ratings, 9.0 Y/Attempt, 65.8% Completions
2020 - 10 games, 24 TDs, 5 INTs, 169.2 Rating, 9.4 Y/Attempt, 69.2% Completions

This is what we all feared and tried our best to bury it deep. Dabo has to change the paint completely, full staff on offense. And going forward maybe people that can discuss things that aren’t so positive should just call themselves coots to save some of these idiots in here some time. But yea, this one hurts and feels true.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought all our recent QBs have their own private QB guru who they rely on for coaching.
Kind of like blaming our golf coach for bad swing. I actually knew a pro in Atlanta that coached one of our golfers and talked to him on the phone almost every day and reviewed video weekly.

Still can't figure out what Dabo sees in Streeter. He was a terrible QB.

Trent needs to call Ray Lewis (and Ray Lewis's lawyer) every day and thank him for his Superbowl ring. That said, he may have a point.

It’s funny, I think Trent Dilfer is mostly a self-righteous gas bag but I don’t disagree with his claim that DJ has gotten worse while at Clemson. And I think his point about TL is at least debatable.
I’m not sure this set of offensive coaches know how to right this ship because whatever they’re doing, it flat out ain’t working.

Trevor Lawrence looked worse last season than any other year at Clemson. He definitely regressed. He was staring down the primary receiver all season long.

Agreed. And I feel like TL was a bit worse in his final year. I’d have to go back and watch more closely to see the mechanics that Dilfer is referring to. I was disappointed he offered zero technical examples. Was his release worse, footwork? I don’t know. Maybe. My point was just that it’s at least on the table. DJ getting worse is blatantly obvious. Personally, I think some of this has to do with scheme as much as mechanics. Even with the best QB coach in the world, I think DJ is a bad fit for RPO and the coaches are trying to make him into something he never was or will be.

Agree, no matter what you think of dilfer he's right. He's also not the first one to say it. Djs former trainer said the same thing. That said, it's not all that's wrong. DJ has a problem making reads. Is that scheme, idk. He also doesn't have an oline but they're ways to scheme around that. Jeff Scott did when he was here.
I'm not smart enough to say whether or not the offense coaching team can change. I do know I've never been a fan of streeter. People will make their own mind up, and like Dabo will point to previous success, but it's true for QB and other position groups as well.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist or a former NFL QB/Elite 11 QB coach to assess this.
The ENTIRE offensive coaching staff (save maybe CJ) needs to be turned over. RBs are the only unit that have shown some fight, although we’ve run four of them off.
Dilfer is coaching high school football. Maybe it’s time to bring him in to coach QBs.

And someone needs to get this article in Grace Raynor from The Athletic’s hand before tomorrow nights press conference. Maybe she’ll ask Dabo about it and help turn up the pressure.

I was expecting some expert break down of what DJ is doing wrong now that he used to be better at, but there’s none of that, just making the statement that “he’s worse than he used to be”. No duh, we’ve all been saying that.

Many of us on Tnet also have pointed out our qbs regress once their natural talent has been coached out of them. DW, TL, and now DJ. The other two were still able to make the plays. Only time will tell if DJ can. I guess not having orange colored glasses on lets you see this terrible trend. Carry on.
