About DW4's situation, the one thing that looks bad, no

Mar 22, 2021, 9:13 AM

matter what, is him contacting 22 (?) different women for "massage services". His supposed defense is that his normal massage therapist was unavailable due to Covid, so he consulted other players for recommendations. Now, if he was legitimately seeking sports massages, and these were legitimate sports massage therapists, no way in heyall would he have a need to go through 22 (or 12, whatever the ever changing number seems to be) to find an acceptable one. They would never stay in business if they were not any good. That, to me is what makes him look very bad in public perception, no matter how this ultimately turns out. Now, if we suddenly find out that by some miracle it was not him who texted these women, or the texts were ALL fakes (not likely), then he would look much better from a perception standpoint.

Very true. Absolutely correct.

Especially coupled with the fact that the team has them available. When it was just a couple, even 3 over a year, it could be explained. As you said, it's the sheer number.

Hate it, feel bad for him, praying for him. But bad choices, no denying that fact.

My sense is these were not, uhm, legitimate massage services.

I suspect this might be exactly what provided Buzbee - who is an ambulance-chasing bottom-feeder - an avenue of attack.

Anybody who's ever played poker recognizes a bully, somebody who's trying to come in strong and bluster you right off the pot, and that's what I strongly suspect is going on here. This is a blitz attack, out of a clear blue sky, much of a muchness...and I suspect, when it's all sorted, much ado about nothing. Most of these complaints were, well, frankly, nothing. When you read them, on their individual merits, they were nothing. I came. I gave massage. Deshaun wore a skimpy towel. It made me uncomfortable. Wut? This merited a lawsuit? It's going to take, like, about 30 seconds for the judge to throw most of these out of court. Most of those, individually, were like that. Like, where's the injury, here?

But that's the point. It's going to get in court. And more importantly, it got into the press. It gets talked about. And it puts pressure on Deshaun. It becomes part of this huge greater PR blitz-attack Buzzbee is mounting against him that includes the press, the courts, and the cops. It creates the perception that there is something there.

My sense is that when you look at the components of what Buzzbee has put together, this is what this is going to be - smoke, mirrors, lies, manufactured stories, manufactured negative publicity...and oh yeah, at the heart of it, Deshaun's own embarrassing conduct that he'd have rather kept quiet. I think at the end of the day, Deshaun was engaging the services of some ladies of the evening. Buzzbee found out about that...and decided he was going to put the squeeze on Deshaun. This seems like a pretty classic smear campaign.

It started with a demand for a six-figure settlement. Deshaun wouldn't bite...which was probably wise. Shakedowns tend to escalate. I dunno if it would have helped him. I think Buzzbee was trying to manufacture all that into a payday for himself...and especially, publicity for himself.

Maybe I'm wrong. But Buzzbee's comes across like a pure scumbag and this was a hit job from Minute 1. Deshaun seems like he might have stepped in it, sure, and his Boy Scout rep is likely going to take some dings...but if this ambulance chaser is the one who ends up taking Deshaun Watson down, I'll eat my hat.

Just do not buy it, sorry. Maybe I'm a chump and Deshaun's got me fooled but if so, Oh Well. This whole thing just feels like the sort of thing that never stands up to serious scrutiny. Serious allegations do not start with demands for six-figure settlements, and they do not originate with guys like Buzzbee.

First let me say I have read ZERO on the situation just what has been posted here and there by others who have given their opinion. I will say on the number of masseuses is that Deshaun is all over the place and maybe he is contacting each one whenever he is in their city or maybe one couldn't come to him or it could be a number of situations. Maybe Deshaun didn't like some of these masseuses himself. I hope it's not true not because he is a Clemson Tiger but because he seems to genuinely be a decent young man that had to go through things most teenagers don't with his mom's cancer. Today's world is a nasty unforgiven world where social media rules the day. We are turning corners in this country that I don't know we'll ever recover from. I hope I'm wrong but it seems public opinion weighs heavier than even criminal or civil court. No one waits for facts anymore it's whatever they believe and even in the face of truth they'll believe a lie. It's out there now so all I'll say is this is still the country that people are innocent until proven guilty, for now. And that the burden of proof is in the women's court.
