A thought on the recruiting rankings

THEY DON'T MATTER!
How many kids come out as 5-stars and don't live up to those expectations? How many walk-on and exceed any and all expectations? Some times - maybe many times - the 4 & 5-star kids really do live up to expectations and make a big difference (Watson & Lawrence, most notably with CU). But there are no guarantees (DJ?).
What matters is getting the right people for OUR program - kids that fit the culture and that the coaches feel they can work with and develop. CDS has said many times that his goal is not to win national championships, but to develop great players and young men. They're looking for kids who fit that criteria, not just great athletes who may be of questionable character.
Yeah, maybe we're missing out on 4 & 5-stars that are out there and subsequently on recruiting rankings wins and even on-field wins and championships. But CDS has said from the outset that that's not his primary goal. It's no secret to anyone who's been following him and the program for the last 12-13 years or so.
What matters is the type of people you develop and the ranking your team has at the END of the year. Being Top-5 or whatever in recruiting is great, but it's not the end-all-be-all we make it out to be. Getting the right mix of guys in the locker room and in the game is.

Remember the first class Dabo signed? There is a reason he called them the Dandy Dozen and this class will be special too.

Do you ever post anything useful, or is your sole reason for being here to accuse other people of being Chicken fans?

Apparently you did not see the # of 3***'s on the first team All ACC team. Some kids develop later and some earlier. I think this day is really an overreaction day for most fans. Let DABO be DABO, he's dome a "pretty good" job so far, don't you think???? Maybe some of the negative posters on here should have be named OC, DC, or Recruiting Coordinator!! LOL

Agree, but then don't get ticked with 9-3 seasons. Rankings don't matter but we missed on a lot of kids we wanted and were silent commits. What really hurts is the 3 decommited. We could use those stud positions.
So, in essence, Brad Brownell and Monte Lee are excellent coaches. Both their respective teams hit 100% acedemics and turned out fine young men.

While I whole-heartedly agree with you, please don't... just, don't.
When we were signing Top 10 Class the Lameclocks were screaming "Rankings don't matter!" and "Stars don't matter!" And we waxed their butts more times than Ralph Machio clean Mr. Miyagi's cars.
They DO matter. They aren't the end all, be all, but they DO MATTER.
Like if your wife keeps telling people, "Size don't matter...."

Reruiting rankings absolutely matter. Yes, the right fit for the program ALSO matters, but the two facts are not mutually exclusive.
While rankings should be considered with a margin of error, and a rate of over/under achievement, the overall averages and on-field results are in alignment.

I disagree. The caliber of recruits matters a lot.

Do you think we would've won national championships without Trevor Lawrence, Deshaun Watson, Mike Williams, Tee Higgins, AJ Terrell, etc.?
I agree that recruiting rankings aren't everything. There can sometimes be unheralded players who outperform their recruiting rankings, but these situations are rare. Typically, the superstars were big time recruits coming out of high school.
Of course character matters. We want good fits for our program. But this is not an either-or proposition.
Look at the recruiting rankings though. Without much exception, the teams with the best recruiting classes mirror the best teams on the field.
A bunch of 3 star players with great character and heart aren't going to result in an elite team.

They matter completely. It's nonsense to say they don't.

Many of the kids signing with UGA and Alabama were the deemed right people for OUR program and were offered by Clemson and now they aren't? Now our goal isn't to win National Championships? The orange smoke you are blowing out of your #### is quite impressive. Our recruiting class was not one of Clemson's best to begin with and then was gutted by the departure of Venable's. I'm optimistic things will get turned around but your post is clownish at best.

(per 247)
2011 #10 2012 #20 2013 #15 2014 #16 2015 #9 2016 #11 2017 #16 (REALLY underrated class - only 14 enrollees) 2018 #7 2019 #9 2020 #3
Not #1 in the ACC until 2018

Consistently solid rankings, and with traditionally small classes. Compare the average player ranking instead of overall class ranking to get even more transparency into how well we have been recruiting.
Add in two generational quarterbacks...

Recruiting matters. Simpson, Murphy, Parks and Breese; DJ we will see, Bowman a miss. All top 50 nationwide recruits from 2020. Davis, Williams & Williams were top 100 will all be starters next year. 8 out of 22 positions top 100 from 2020. Will others develop and become starters and all ACC, probably/maybe if they don't dive into the portal too soon.
To consistently compete for national titles you have to recruit and attract elite talent; it is more important than ever as it appears "super" teams are being built due to NIL.
However, if developing exceptional men and graduating at a high percentage is most important, meaning that is what the program is all about, I am good with that. Just need to manage expectations.
