For those of you not watching the Jan 6 hearings

Jun 28, 2022, 9:50 AM

one of the central villains is wacky lawyer John Eastman, who assisted Trump's efforts to steal the 2020 election.

The feds just seized his phone. This suggests that the DOJ is preparing a case against him and/or others on Team Trump.

Although I still think the most important thing is to protect our country against another president going rogue and ignoring the will of the people, it's interesting to think that there may also be criminal consequences for what happened in 2020.

and was so desperate to retain power he lied to the country again and again (and still does to this day). He was so desperate he was having fake slates of electors send to DC.

It's that level of desperation that we have to be better prepared for, from a legal/system perspective.

I dare say that level of desperation in a sitting US President wasn't really imaginable until it happened.

Jungers will get on here and say, I told you so. Trump tried to overthrow the gov.

Trump has had hundreds of investigations and they couldn't even get him. I figured he'd done many criminal things as a builder in NYC. It comes with the territory and the mob.

Jun 28, 2022, 10:36 AM [ in reply to Non of those had to do with trump Russia collusion ]

Well, they didn't find the collusion because Manafort wouldn't talk and went to jail, and Roger Stone wouldn't talk and also went to jail.

And then Trump pardoned them.

And then, just for cherry-on-top garnish, it was later revealed that Paul Manafort - who was, since you have obviously forgotten, Trump's campaign manager at the time - had an employee called Konstantine Kilimnik who was later discovered to be Russian intelligence. And the Treasury department, of all unlikely places - though it's interesting because the Secret Service is part of Treasury - discovered communiques back to Russia that indicated Manafort was passing polling data back to Russian intelligence through him.

But sure. No collusion.

Here is actual proof that Trump's campaign was working with Russian intelligence, who was directing Russian troll farms, to influence an American Presidential election.

So, your "Good Lord" implies:

it's not that serious?

Trump didn't actually know about it and Manafort was going rogue?

I mean, it's real, and it happened, and it's right there for all to see. Because Mueller couldn't find the link (Kilimnik), means it doesn't count since it was uncovered after his investigation? Please, walk us through the "Good Lord", if you don't mind. You seem incredulous.

He said this:

“The president was not exculpated for the acts that he allegedly committed,” Mueller told the House judiciary committee, adding that Trump could theoretically be indicted after he leaves office.

“We did not address ‘collusion,’ which is not a legal term,” Mueller added. “Rather, we focused on whether the evidence was sufficient to charge any member of the campaign with taking part in a criminal conspiracy. It was not.”

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-jospehg.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Here's what the report said ...

Jun 28, 2022, 12:09 PM

NO COLLUSION BETWEEN THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN AND RUSSIA

Mueller made that clear.

Barr quotes Mueller's confidential report as saying the investigation "did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities."

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory/collusion-key-takeaways-muellers-russia-findings-61915465

Call it what you will, but Mueller, in his report, said that he found no conspiracy or coordination between the Trump campaign and the Russian government in it's election interference activities.

I understand that just because they could not find any conspiracy or coordination, it doesn't necessarily mean that it doesn't exist, but that's true in every investigation or trial in which the accused is found innocent due to lack of evidence; that can't be taken as an indication of guilt, however. There's no "gotcha" there. At the end of the day, Mueller, after a lengthy and exhuastive investigation, found no conspiracy or coordination between the Trump campaign and Russia. The end.

Re: Here's what the report said ...

Jun 28, 2022, 12:34 PM

They didn't finish their investigation. They got as far as they got and couldn't establish more, because key witnesses wouldn't cooperate.

Mueller then went on to say plain as day his investigation was obstructed. That message was completely obscured by the way Bill Barr ran interference for that. (Mueller was reportedly absolutely livid about that behind the scenes.)

https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2019/07/mueller-testimony-barr-narrative/594547/

My guess - Mueller has never spoken about this publicly - is that Mueller did his investigation, showed what he had...and then the politicians and spin doctors got ahold of it. He deliberately kept the FBI out of the politics and didn't render judgments...because he was very aware Congress was the courtroom.

The Mueller probe laid out a pretty convincing view of Russian interference on Trump's behalf...and if Trump was so innocent of collusion, why'd he obstruct? (Which he absolutely did...which included later pardoning witnesses who wouldn't point the finger at him.)

Manafort shared polling data with a Ukrainian that he has had a business relationship with for 20+ years. That really turned the election in trumps favor.

How about this Russian collusion....

Glenn Simpson (owned fusion gps that Hillary hired) set up the trump tower meeting. He supplied a RUSSIAN lawyer with fake damaging information that she then relayed to don jr.

Also not to mention the sun source of the dossier was a suspected Russian agent.

Re: Non of those had to do with trump Russia collusion

Jun 28, 2022, 12:22 PM

Nobody is talking about the Steele Dossier.

Also, the fact that Manafort had had a relationship with a Russian agent (and employed him) for 20+ years does not in fact make that guy less of a Russian agent.

Manafort got busted laundering money for the very same Russian-backed oligarchs Ukraine threw out of power in 2013, in fact. (Which led Russia to invade Crimea in Ukraine for the first time, in 2014. Russia doesn't take rejection well, and Ukraine was supposed to be a puppet state.)

Which makes it all the more horrible that Trump tried to strong-arm Zelenskyy a couple years later by withholding arms aid unless Zelenskyy flat-out lied and said he was investigating Joe Biden for corruption. (Which Zelenskyy was not, by the way.)

The fact that you're still talking about the Steele Dossier - which was a political hit job by Hillary and had just about zero to do with Mueller - and trying to insist Trump is somehow innocent when his actions and subsequent events all pretty much speak for themselves shows you're beyond mule-headed stubborn. You're willfully blind.

Why are you so triggered by manafort sharing polling data with a friend of 20 years, but don't seem to care about the nefarious collusion with Russia on the other side?

Re: So Mueller got it wrong?***

Jun 28, 2022, 11:46 AM

Mueller never said "innocent". He said specifically "did not establish sufficient evidence at this time." Go read the text of his statement. Basically, he said he didn't have enough at the time to charge with. He also said pretty clearly there was more than ample evidence for obstruction but it wasn't his job to say so, it was Congress's. (Of course, Bill Barr stepped on that with his own little preface.)

A big part of the reason Mueller didn't have sufficient evidence was despite the fact that he rolled up and leaned on Manafort and Stone - keep in mind it was his investigation that put both in jail, along with numerous others - they didn't squawk. The whole Mueller investigation was a pretty classic mob-boss rollup...right until the point they bumped into the president's ability to pardon key witnesses...which by definition stonewalled him from going further.

And then the president duly pardoned both guys, and they walked...and he walked. Which was a straight abuse of the office. The only ones who can't understand this are Trump partisans who could care less about right or wrong as long as their side "wins".

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I understand the difference between "insufficient evidence"

Jun 28, 2022, 12:24 PM

and "innocent". Just a reminder, "insuffisient evidence" does not = guilty, either. Bottom line, they could not establish that Trump colluded, and if a person is accused or suspected of crimes, the accusers have to prove it. They had their chance, and they couldn't do it.

Before meeting with Flynn, the fbi had a meeting to discuss how they were going to prosecute Flynn. The point of the meeting was to "get him to lie"

Sleepy joe even recommended the Logan act to prosecute Flynn, something that has only been prosecuted twice in its history. Once in 1802 and again in 1852. They were literally bringing up ancient laws to try and get Flynn.

And are we also not going to talk about the DOJ dropping all barges for Flynn?

Yup.

If you're planning a crime with your lawyer, that isn't covered under "attorney-client privilege". Otherwise all mob bosses would just order hits through their lawyer, and then claim privilege on every murder committed.
