A new OT Rule for college AND the NFL. Start with the

college OT rules as they are right now. But, back each successive possession up 20 yards. In other words, if both teams are still tied after first possession from the 25 yard line, then next possession starts at the 45. And so on. Pretty soon, one or the other defenses will force a stop, and turnover on downs.

If BOTH teams turn it over on downs on their last possession, then, and only then, go to the "Two point try", one play at a time for each team, until a winner is determined.

The NFL OT Rule seems to be set up to get a winner in the shortest possible time. I say, if both teams have fought it out for 60 minutes and are still tied, then the "time" element should not factor into the decision process beyond that point.

I say Dr Pepper style face off where the two quarterbacks throw it into that Dr Pepper shaped target. Or better yet, field goal kickers go at it from the opposite ends of the field at the same time... most successful FGs from 50 yds in 1 minute wins.

Just have the midfield coinflip, visitors make that call and whoever wins is declared the winner of the game (haha).

Pretty good thinking.
But allow 2-point conversion attempts only in OT, or move the LOS WAY back for the 1-pt try.
And if both teams turn it over on downs consecutively, the winner is the team that gained the most yards in their last drive. Done.
That should eliminate the potential for baseball-style all-nighters, and it's still all performance based.
