A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY for my fellow Tigers....
Nov 4, 2015, 7:36 PM
|
|
Friends, we older Tigers recall very well all the naysayers and head shakers across the land who gave Clemson little chance to beat Nebraska in the Orange Bowl in January 1982.
Here we were...the upstarts from a backwoods school in South Carolina going up against the mighty Cornhuskers led by one of the coaching greats: Tom Osborne.
Most Clemson folks I knew at the time had the same question as I: Could we REALLY pull off what most would consider an upset?
We know the history..............Fast forward, and again we find those who cast doubt; those who think the history of our rivalry against FSU may result in our first loss this season. We older folks have been down that road before...we know the doubters and naysayers will appear.
Thus, we offer this advice: STEADY your nerves; BELIEVE in our Tigers; FORGET the doubters; and whether in Death Valley, in a sports bar or at home with family or friends, LET YOUR VOICES RISE IN UNISON TO THAT OLD CLEMSON REFRAIN:
GOOOOOOOOOOOOO TIGERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRS!!!!!! BEAT THE H3LL OUTA FLORIDA STATE!!!!!!!

I was in Miami and will never forget it!! A raw young freakish 300lb freshman (later to be tabbed as "The Fridge") who schooled Outland Trophy winner Dave Remington all night!!
May the Tigers Roar echo across the mighty Blue Ridge Saturday night!!
Go Tigers!!

You're the man. Glad you see the intangible similarities between the 15 and 81 Clemson teams.

Gotta believe it before you can see it.
Our guys seem to believe wholeheartedly they won't be denied, under any circumstance. And they can back it. Different feel.

for my first series of schools...Airborne; then on to the IOBC, then Ranger School.
Made some great friends there from schools like the Citadel, West Point, TAMU, etc., crossing paths with them over the years. By the time of the title game in 1982, I had been out of service for almost nine years, having served four active.
Funny thing was during that game my son said, "You'd think you were back in the Army...with all that h3ll-raising and carrying on." LOL.......AIRBORNE!

We BELIEVED...

when we were down 5-0 to Tulane...
when we held Georgia to 3 points…
when we outscored Kentucky 21-3…
when we goose egged Virginia…
when we won the Textile Bowl 17-7…
when we made Tiger mascot Ricky Capps do over 400 pushups against Wake Forest…
when we baseball scored the Tarheels 10-8 …
when we choked the chickens 29-13…
when all the folks in Miami were saying to us “Clemzon who?” and “Where’s Clemzon?”…
and when the scoreboard read 22-15 at the Orange Bowl National Championship game...
WE BELIEVED!!! GO TIGERS!!! BEAT FSU!!!

Hartins, a reminder (for others, we oldsters remember)

that, although ranked #4 going into the Orange Bowl, Nebraska had lost two games already (9-2 record). No 2 Georgia and No 3 Alabama had already lost their bowl games either before, or while our game was in progress. Can you imagine the chaos that would have existed if a two loss #4 team had won the Orange Bowl in that scenario? There would have been more lobbying for the NC going on from a half a dozen teams than happens on Capitol Hill. Glad we were able to save the country from that! Tigers always happy to perform a public service.
