A few years back Brownell was being compared to Matt

Mar 25, 2022, 8:01 PM

Painter, and it was suggested by many that the situations at the two schools were similar, and that Brownell could have similar success at Clemson to what Painter was building at Purdue.

What the hayull happened there?

It's not even close. Look at Painters record compared to Brad. Well Purdue is a basketball school but Brad would not be doing nearly as well there.

You sir have no idea how CBB would do at a basketball first school in a good location for recruiting. As an example Larry Shyatt had three 20 win seasons at Wyoming after leaving Clemson.

Great question. Brownell does not recruit well enough to compete with the top tier teams. Not saying it’s all his fault but he is the head coach and if personnel changes need to be made I’m hoping he his addressing it.

Your post seem to point to coaches as the reason Clemson does not recruit as well as top tier teams. My question is what does Clemson have to offer a 4 or 5* player from three states away which would make them want to choose Clemson over some other school? If you ask the same question about our football program the answer is easy. So the key is to find ways to provide a good answer for Clemson basketball. I would submit if the only answer you have is a new coach that won’t work out as they bolt if they do well, get fired if they don’t or get caught pulling a Will Wade.

Basically we are one high 4* player per year from being a consistent tournament team

The Brownell bandwagon club is going to tell you Clemson beat Purdue early last season to win the Tourney in Florida. Yeah, but Purdue was missing two key starters then and got off to a very slow start.

The irony, is Painter came very close to taking the Missouri job in 2012, the top candidate at the time because Brad had only been at Clemson for two years was Coach. What if...

Do you understand how the internet works? You can literally type anything and it shows all discussions or articles or even message board posts…. Literally no one on a Tnet even discusses this according to Google… just type in “Brad Brownell Matt painter” will give you everything my guy, not once mentioned anywhere.
