What time do you go to bed at night?

Mar 1, 2022, 9:47 AM

Fbmooch said something about his wife gong to bed at 9; I haven't been to bed at 9pm since I was in elementary school.

I'll usually start thinking about going to bed around 11, and and make it to bed sometimes around 12 or 1.

What time do you go to bed?

8 or 9 when I crash every few weeks.

The kicker is that I get up at 4:30 M-F.

You'd think it wouldn't be sustainable, but I've been doing it for years and years.

I get tired AF around 4-6 PM, though.

It's probably not healthy.

Mar 1, 2022, 9:53 AM

at 9:30, musta been a pretty bad weekend of sleep. Most week nights I'm falling asleep on the couch at 11 or 11:30, and waking up at midnight or 1 or 2 and brushing my teeth and crawling in bed. That's a pretty dumb way to do things, if we're being honest.

My kids go to bed at 8. They usually don't go to sleep

Mar 1, 2022, 9:53 AM

until 9-9:30. After that is the best time of my day because I'm actually allowed to rest.

It's a sticking point for my wife because she wants to be in bed at 9 and since she's a stage 5 clinger she wants me in bed at that time too.

But like I told her, from 9 until I go to bed is the only time I'm alone in my day. So I usually go to bed around 10-11. But I fall asleep before my head hits the pillow and am up at 6 am each morning.

I think a lot of her sleeping issues stem from her wanting to go to sleep at 9, but she doesn't have to wake up until 8-9 am. If I slept 12 hours a day I'd have trouble falling asleep eventually too.

Mar 1, 2022, 9:54 AM

earlier. I used to go to bed at midnight or later after falling asleep on the couch.

Since we got our new mattress a few months ago, I am thinking of getting a bigger television(circa 2004 42" Panasonic plasma) and a small refrigerator for the bedroom.

Note: people who brag about getting up early, usually go to bed around 9 and get over 8 hours of sleep a night. Who the heck has time for that? <img border=">

Most week days my meetings don't start until around 9-10 am, so thats when my day starts.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I try to go to bed 11:38-11:45pm on weeknights

Mar 1, 2022, 10:08 AM

So I can be asleep by midnight. I stay up later on weekends.

Up at 6:06AM. My alarm clock has been set at that time for many years, I can't recall exactly why I chose that exact time. It's habit or good luck at this point. I wake up around 3 every night, but go right back to sleep (I have 3-hour sleep "cycles" evidently). I thought I was imagining this but I bought one of those "smartwatches" and turns out pretty accurate.

6 hours of sleep does me fine. I can take a nap on Sunday to "catch up" if I need to. That's all I'm programmed to need, and all I really ever get.

If I go to bed earlier than 11:30 I just wake up earlier. Nothing is worse than waking up at 4am ready to get up. Makes for a loooong day.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

In my mid 20's I as driving a lot and listening to stuff

Mar 1, 2022, 10:13 AM

like Dave Ramsey and being debt free, and reading self help books that said I need to get up at some ridiculous time of day like 4 or 5 Am and make your bed and get "ready" for the day.

So I did that or a while and I guess that stuff may work if you actually have something to do. Probably if you work for yourself where you have work you can do without anyone else being around. Otherwise, you end up sitting around a lot waiting on the rest of the world to get up.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

this is my own stupid logic, but I figured out once

Mar 1, 2022, 10:37 AM

that by sleeping 6 hours per night instead of 8 (2 hours/night), over the course of time......

I am awake 14 hours more per week.
2hrs x 30days = awake 60 more hours per month = 2.5 days.
2.5 x 12 months = 30 more days per year (an entire MONTH of "living life" per year than an 8-hour sleeper).
Over a 12 year span, I get an entire YEAR more awake time.

That's a significant amount. IF you can do that and remain healthy, that is. I know some people cannot and really need more sleep to function properly. But if you are wired to not need as much sleep, that's a good way to get so much more out of life without actually living longer.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agreed.

Mar 1, 2022, 10:57 AM

I wish I could get away with a lot less sleep. I just feel like crap anything less than about 9 hrs sleep.

I remember back when I was regularly doing 20-30 hour Thursdays for work, how much more I could do if I never slept.

But then after doing one of those I'd have to sleep straight for 16 hours.

Weekend wakeup time is highly inconsistent, probably to the point of being unhealthy.

Mar 1, 2022, 10:24 AM

Days are night and nights are days now. I confess, it started with boredom from not being able to work on my project due to cold weather and $400-$700/gal paint. That brought about binge watching a variety of series on Netflux and other services.

Coupled with those two events is my BP being very low from medications prescribed for me when I weighed 30+ lbs more. Digestion requires much of the body's blood so every meal is like a shot of heroin. I nod out over a bologna/mustard sandwich.

I'm ashamed to be the poster child for 'early to bed...,' at the nursing home. I'm working hard to stay awake until some decent hour tonight so I can get back to work tomorrow. 70+ degrees and I no longer can excuse my mentally ill behavior.

How do y’all do it? I go to bed at 7:30pm -8:00pm every day. My child goes to bed at 5:30pm-6:00pm as he refuses to take a nap at daycare. I get up at 4:00 everyday and have for 25 years. Prior job started at 5:30. New job starts at 8:00 but never changed. I also have not set alarm clock In 12 years.
