What are realistic expectations for next year??

Jan 7, 2014, 8:52 AM

New, possibly Freshman QB, New, possibly Freshman RB, best two receivers gone, best two OL gone, best pass rusher and cover corner gone. I know we have talent, but it's inexperienced and green. I think realistically if we are 8-4 that is a good year, all things considered. Anybody else? Don't flame, just my opinion.

The key is Defense next year. Do we have a top 10 D?

Jan 7, 2014, 8:54 AM

I think we could and it could make all the difference in some of the games we play. We have been a scoring machine. I think we have an adequate O but I think our key this year will be how dominate we are on D.

GO TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!

Only if we find better safeties. Safety play was horrible

all season. You cannot be a stifling defense with the quality of safety play we had this year.

Jan 7, 2014, 8:55 AM

I think if a freshman QB & RB beat out all the talent on our team...then our expectation should be to win them all. This team isn't as depleted as you think.

Stoudt and our guys that already have PT will likely prove capable and 10-11 wins is reasonable again.

9-3.

Key losses on D due to graduation/early leaving.

O needs some play makers to step up. We have no clear cut 1 or 2 RB or WR.

Still @uga and home vs sc is likely 1-1 split.
@Fsu is a loss
Louisville or unc could be a loss if we crap ourselves (were due for a loss to a single digit win team)

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Obviously, the expectations won't be as high

Jan 7, 2014, 8:58 AM

That could be a positive for the team.

I think around 9-3 with a W over a rebuilding

Jan 7, 2014, 8:58 AM

(peaked?) Coot team.

10 wins would be overachieving but not impossible IMO.

Re: I think around 9-3 with a W over a rebuilding

Jan 7, 2014, 9:01 AM

I say it's possible we go 11-2 again. Very possible. If we beat Georgia then FSU and SCAR are the biggest threats. But hopefully the scar game is a W

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Realistic? 14-0. Too much to hope for? USC is swallowed

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We should be better at RB next year with Gallman and Dye

Jan 7, 2014, 9:02 AM

Battle moves back to LT, but that leaves NOBODY at RT. Gore, Maclain, Anthony aren't ready to start. Stoudt is a capable QB, but replacing Sammy is impossible. Losing Bryant hurts but getting Peake back helps. Offense will be less productive next year most likely. But hopefully the defense will be better. Time for Boulware to step up and replace Shuey. Dorian replaces QC, who was a constant underachiever. Losing Breeland sucks, but maybe Mac Alexander can fill his role. We still desperately need better safety play, at both spots, to be a top 10 defense.

Looking at the schedule though, if we lose to anybody outside of USuC, UGA, and FSU, it would be an upset.

Re: We should be better at RB next year with Gallman and Dye

Jan 7, 2014, 9:06 AM

I think the defense will continue this great improvement no matter if Beasley leaves or whoever. We have good recruits and depth in the front 7 and a GREAT DE in Lawson. He won't be in college long.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There is a lot of pride right now on this Clemson team--more

Jan 7, 2014, 9:03 AM

than in previous years. They may overachieve and win some big ones just because these players have been in some big-time games and wins.

I know you say--no way against FSU--but never underestimate Dabo and the Tigers (signed Les Miles, Mark Richt, and Urban Meyer)

Jan 7, 2014, 9:20 AM

I don't think any game we play next year is impossible. Will it take some good breaks by us to win? It always does, but I think we have a good chance to win any game we play. FSU will be the toughest, but I doubt we have another game against, even FSU, where we don't catch a single break. All the rest are certainly doable.

Re: What are realistic expectations for next year??

Jan 7, 2014, 9:04 AM

QB I hope Deshaun lives up to the hype and doesn't redshirt. He seems beyond his years on the field snd off I think he's gonna light it up and I also think the way teams are running the O these days that Chad Morris is gonna know we need him. If not Chad Kelly is the man, he was supposed to be second string but he got injured don't let Dtoudt homers fool you... I love Stoudt and he's great but he's not a QB thas gonna lead a team all the way. At the receiver position we won't have a particular talent like Watkins even tho I think Mike Williams will be great. But with Williams, Peake, Green, Kitt coming this year, Humphries. I still think we have too much talent spread out to catch the ball to stop. Running back I think we will see our best years ever. Brooks has been getting better every season but now we get to see Dye, Gallman, Davidson...very excited for the run game. The D I don't think will be worse but too early too see where there will be improvements. O line same thing...I do know Venables is bringing us more comfortable every year on that side of the ball. I will miss Catman but I think Pinion is awesome!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Gonna be tough.

Jan 7, 2014, 9:05 AM

We're losing our kicker too.

Recruiting has been very good and we have a Top 5 coordinator on each side.

If 3-9 Auburn can make the BCS game, why not us?

People keep saying UGANDA other than Gurley don't know why, we have seen there new QB play now and I'm not impressed.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

THUGA is a joke.

Jan 7, 2014, 9:19 AM

We will handle them. Richt = T. Bowden.

It's the ACC I am concerned about.

Jan 7, 2014, 9:22 AM [ in reply to Gonna be tough. ]

We have a very good nucleus and some quality depth on both sides of the ball. Our future looks pretty bright to me, and a whole lot better than it has not too long ago.

Re: What are realistic expectations for next year??

Jan 7, 2014, 9:29 AM

A lot of the teams we play next year will have big questions as well. Therefore, do not be surprised to see Clemson with a similar record next year. Stoudt is taller than Boyd and I think we will run a simpler offense throwing underneath routes more with a taller QB who can see over the o-line. RB position will be fine, it'll be Brooks' position with solid talent to back him up. One guy it seems like everyone is missing at WR next year is Germone Hopper this kid could be a difference maker in the slot. Mike Williams will be the go-to guy next year with Peake and Clemson will have sure hands in Humphreys. One major tool Clemson should have next year is a consistent TE in Leggett (assuming he grows up and improves this off-season).

On defense, the major question is not if Beasley returns but if Anthony comes back. He can be a big-time LB at Clemson next season. Don't be shocked if Steward finally lives up to his bill (it's his last year to prove himself to get drafted... this could go along way i.e. Daquan Bowers' junior year). Also, I liked some of the things I saw from BJ Goodson before his injury. I do agree that Blanks, Kearse, and Smith have to make major strides this off season if our defense is going to be dominant. Our safety's are the reason we still give up big plays. You have talent there to make that improvement, but they have to do it. Up-front were as good as we've been in 5 years or so. Especially at DT which is one reason for the major improvements at LB. Having Beasley back would be huge, but we can not lose Anthony to the draft if we want to be great on that side of the ball next year.

Kicking game could hurt us early in the season, like a road game at UGA. If this team can do what our team has struggled to do the last few season which is get better through out the season than this team will go 10-2 with the big W coming at home against a team Dabo desperately needs to beat. might get to be back in Miami next year, but winning the bowl game next year with some young, talent could be hard. I say 10-3 is a bowl loss in the orange bowl.

Jan 7, 2014, 9:32 AM

Idk I still don't see that between Kelly, Watson and Stoudt why everyone is leaning on Cole... It's gonna be an earned spot they said not seniority. Love the gyuy but if thas the case no way he beats out either of them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

9-3. 10-2 very possible

Jan 7, 2014, 9:32 AM

The team should still be plenty talented to beat everyone but FSU, UGA, and USC. I say UGA and USC are toss ups. I think FSU will be on another level next year.

10-2 is REALISTIC

Jan 7, 2014, 10:44 AM

A 10-2 with a few mistakes and bad breaks is 8-4, that same 10-2 team with a few breaks is 12-0. We're reloading with talent already on campus, not rebuilding .

Even the freshmen WR's that some think will contribute are already on campus , will go through the whole off season and spring before next season.

Re: What are realistic expectations for next year??

Jan 7, 2014, 11:12 AM

Good question! I think our pass defense will be better even with losing Breeland. Yeah, our secondary was exposed in several games this year. Coaching will correct most of our problems. We have some very talented DB athletes coming back. Overall, we may miss Beasley's athleticism and speed at DE, but the cupboard is not bare. Coaching should help us handle running QBs better. I think our overall defense will be better.

On offense, we will miss Sammy, Tajh, and and Martavis, but, again, the cupbord is full. I look for some change in our offense. I think we will be more run-oriented, and will have some bigger, stronger guys to work with. We may stumble some in the early season, but by October, we will be a pretty good team barring bad injuries.

Our biggest problems will be with the two teams that beat us this year, and, of course UGa is always tough.

I think 10 - 2 is reasonable.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

10-2

Jan 7, 2014, 2:00 PM

Maybe 11 wins.....FSU will be tough. Gonna say L but hope for a W. UGA / SC also tough.....I say we win at least 1 of the 2
