Great start by Clemson, but a long road ahead.

Dec 27, 2016, 10:04 AM

I have Clemson #23 in my rating system, with a strength of schedule rated #52. This is by far the toughest OOC schedule Clemson has had in my 4-5 years of doing these ratings (They've had a couple years with an OCSOS in the 300s). Their slate so far has them set up for an NCAA tournament berth. But there is one problem, and that is the depth of the ACC this year. They have ten of the top 33 teams. Clemson's remaining SOS is rated #9. If they can get to 10-8 in-conference with the schedule numbers they will have, I they should be in the tournament. It will be a wild ride trying to get to that number...there will be ranked teams all over the place.

500 in the ACC this year

A 500 in conference record this year will be much tougher and more highly regarded than Clemson's winning in conference record last year. As you noted, this is a much stronger ACC, particularly in the middle. There are a couple of potentially elite teams, but more than that, there are another half dozen that look to be very tough outs, particularly on the road. @ VPI and @ Miami late are probably their best shot at a road wins and they have home games against UNC, Va, and Cuse. If they can go 2-1 against that group and otherwise hold serve at home, they're on the bubble. If they can pull off a road win, or 1-2 wins in the tournament, they're in (IMO). The realy good news is that they have the potential for a late run. After a tough stretch of @ FSU, Cuse, AND @ Duke, they get back to back winable road games against Miami and Va Tech followed by a 3 game home stand against FSU, NC St, and BC. Beating FSU will be a tall order, but it's much easier at home than on the road and Clemson has a history of playing the Noles pretty well. Miami and VPI will both be top 20-30 type teams and certainly in the NCAA's critical top 50.

We have beaten the limpcocks already this season so we should be a shoo in for the tournament!

Got to win Wednesday to avoid a "bad" loss. Or what ....

Dec 27, 2016, 12:31 PM

Wouldn't hurt too much with the committee...

Unless UNC-W tanks.

Would also be nice if Oklahoma picked it up...

and started winning some more games.

Amen

Oklahoma is not even getting AP Top 25 votes. Certainly not a good loss.
