Swinney updates Austin Bryant, team's dominant performance Friday

Clemson put the finishing touches on the first half of the first half of the regular season with a resounding 56-10 thumping of Boston College Friday night in Chestnut Hill, an effort that head coach Dabo Swinney was the Tigers’ best of the season. Full Story »

5 QB's dressing and traveling

Oct 9, 2016, 8:16 PM

with Cooper being one of them makes me think that he will start next season.

Hold up...

What about 5 QBs traveling makes you think Zerrick Cooper jumps Kelly Bryant. With Deshaun going pro and Nick graduating, it seems obvious to me that Kelly Bryant is in-line to move from 3rd on the depth chart to 1st.

Just curious, but why do you think Cooper goes from redshirting to starting in 2017? And how can he possibly jump past Kelly Bryant?

Because I think in the back of the coaches minds regardless of what they have said to the media, they believe that if the game is on the line and DW gets hurts, that Copper is the best candidate to help them win. Why else is he dressed? Seems odd that three other QB's dressed and traveled yet wouldn't that be enough? Why is 7% of the team that traveled from 1 specific position? I am obviously jumping to farfetched conclusions, but there is nothing in any game I have watched that has shown me that any of the backup QB'S that have played that they are capable for 60 minutes to play well enough against a good team and win. I am not saying that they are bad players, but we have been spoiled with a good QB in Tajh and a great QB in DW. None of the backups have shown the capability to be anywhere near as good so I am making an assumption based on that. Not trying to hurt anyone's feelings or be negative. Just my opinion and observation.

When DW was hurt, he was taking mental reps. Watching the field of play and in conversation with the coaches, can the new guy recognize coverage, does he know what the check downs real time rather than on film.

They said earlier that they want Cooper

traveling with the team so that he can learn that aspect. He is red shirting, but they want him as involved as possible.

I agree with you. No way he jumps Bryant. And we haven't got to see much of Bryant due to his limited playing time.

We ALLLLL should know that it takes a QB being in the game more than one series to get in a groove more times than not.

If Cooper starts over Johnson his rs freshmen year. Does Johnson sit 2 years?

You ask how--if he learns the offense and is a better passer than Bryant has shown so far. Now I grew up in Calhoun Falls and am pulling for Bryant but he needs to get better passing because he has some real competition coming in. It is a possibility that neither he or Cooper ever starts.

I have noticed that some QBs do not play well the 1st time in a stadium, whether that is true or not it makes sense to let some players that you expect to be leaders of your team to travel and be familiar with facilities and the traveling routine.

Yep, the coaches want future potential starters and leaders familiar with the travel and the routine in each opponents' stadium. It makes the road trip there in two years not seem like an unknown to QBs.
