5 and 4* recruiting analysis.

Losing an entire senior class during the entire Bowden / Dabo exchange has hurt more than some people think. There might be 6 or 7 R.S. holdovers from that class. The 2010 class had some big 4* misses so far on the defensive side of the ball with Watson being the only hit and Barnes, Brown, Parker, Peters, and Robinson all being misses so far. On the offensive side of the ball the only 4* player was Hopkins, and he has been a huge hit. The verdict is still out on the 2011 class, but so far we have gone 1 for 4 with 5 star players, with Bellamy and Steward both being misses, Anthony being a question mark, and Watkins being a huge hit. Then moving to 4* players on defense, Crawford is somewhat of a hit, with Davis and Townsend being misses so far. It's hard to tell on offense with Bryant and Peake being question marks and MacLain being a miss right now. It's hard to judge the 2012 class with Blanks being the only big contributor. So, it looks like the 2010, defensive heavy class has been a huge miss, with mixed results in the 2011 class being more miss than hit, especially with the 5* players. It's interesting to say that recruiting has been good, but the 4 and 5* success rate has bee marginal at best.

Go look at most all teams and you will find the same everywhere in college football..... it is everywhere.... I really think the new system on "D" affected us, but what would good news is that only 8 guys ran down that hill for the last time.
We are mostly a freshman, red-shirt freshman and sophomore team....
The main people who are complaining about Dabo are people who didn't want him hired in the first place and so now this validates their opinion in their feeble minds..... I still believe Dabo is building for the long term....

I firmly believe that recruiting big nasty lineman on both sides of the ball HAS to become a priority. We need talent and depth on the lines. Then and only then will we realize the talent of our skill positions. DB's can be average when they only have to cover for a few seconds.

good point, my most recent memories of good defenses was when we had gaines and bowers wreaking havoc. you can really see it when a team has a guy like that (or clowney)

Now look at Coot recruiting
Nov 25, 2012, 6:25 PM
|
|
2009 recruiting for the Coots included a bunch of players that didn't make it into school or are gone, so it looks like this. On defense 4* hits were Gilmore (big hit) Holloman and Sutton, Fordham, and Jeffery being functional. Misses include a bunch of kids that never made it to campus: Byrd, Chisolm, Dickerson, Mackey, and Straughter all being busts. Offensive recruiting was a bust with Jeffery being a big hit (and gone) and Axon, Coffee, Giles, and Scruggs all being busts. 2011 was almost all hits for the Gamecocks with Lattimore being a big 5* hit and Hampton being a hit on defense with Gilchrest being a miss and on offense, Ace Sanders and A.J. Cann being a hits. 2012 class has another huge 5* hit with Clowney and then 4* defensive hit with Quarless and Williams and Dukes and Royster being ? marks. On offense 4* hit is Shell (big hit) and Byrd being a question mark. Finally the 2012 class is still a question mark with Mike Davis being the only contributor. So while while our recruiting has been better than the Coots are 2 for 2 on 5* players, and about even on 4* players. So their yield is similar.

Dabo needs to start looking at that. We have guys who have been there 2 and 3 yrs. who have done nothing. They would be history at SC

Can we work something out with Furman and Wofford where we send them 3 or 4 players a year. That wouldn't be so unethical.
