Dang. Will they put trees back in?

1

Jan 3, 2023, 5:52 PM

I loved tailgating under an oak tree.

From the article: "A total of 115 new trees are planned to replace the 21 existing as part of this renovation with the appropriate standards to ensure long term growth and life expectancy."

Yeah, but where? In the lot, or just around it? The way the roots from the old ones messed up the pavement makes me think the “sustainable” part means not in the lot.

I’m not a tree hugger and don’t really care that 115 > 21 to help save the Earth from deadly carbon dioxide “pollution.” Tailgating in the shade when it’s hot is nice. And the leaves are gone when it’s cold.

But I don't see 115 trees in this plan.

They’ll be like those little #### ### trees in mall parking lots that never grow over 7 feet.

Agree, and I just hate to see them cut down all the trees on campus?
That’s not progress?
Then pave and build on all the green space that made up the main campus.

Love Clemson, but clear cutting and paving is not necessarily progress?

Go Tigers!

Ok let’s try to relax here for a minute. Every project that the University has undertaken has turned out beautifully and enhances the overall appearance of an already gorgeous campus. Have some faith and try to appreciate the vision. Betcha a $12 Sprite it turns out better than you think it’s going to and yes, if you plant them…..they will grow. Go Tigers!!! Go Tigerwalk and Go Trees !!!!!

By their appearance I had previously thought the trees where over a hundred years old, but someone posted a pic showing the old married student hosing indicating the trees weren’t there and they were planted in the 1960s. They’ll put trees in that will not be as majestic but more sustainable. The new Tiger Walk will be great and there will be trees.

I’m especially grateful for the input requested by the Athletic Department for those of us who have parked in Lot 5 for decades.

No input was requested.

Bye IPTAY, not that they will care one bit.

This keeps from having to shut down Perimeter Road for 30 to 45 minutes for Tiger Walk. I have been in traffic backups well beyond the Tucker Hipps Bridge on a handful of occasions due to Tiger Walk. There was nothing organic or awesome about that! This also adds 42 more parking spots. Also, couldn't making a walking park on the hill from Press Row down to Lot 5 be considered as organic and awesome? I sympathize with anyone who loses tree shade, but pop-up tents are an option.

Someone quoted that there would be 42 more spaces but I doubt that because of all the space taken away or like I said... maybe for Prius sized vehicles.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

42 additional spaces calculated based on data and math

Jan 5, 2023, 8:10 AM

The highest numbered parking space on the architectural drawing for the proposed Lot 5 change is 858. Based on the IPTAY Interactive Parking Map, there were 816 numbered parking spaces last year in Lot 5. 858-816=42.

When this is done, they will not have to stop all traffic on Perimenter Road for 30 to 45 minutes for Tiger Walk. I believe that this also increases the number of spaces in Lot 5 by 42. They are also creating a walking park area on the hill from Press Row down to Lot 5.

Seriously? I’ve watched lot 5ers pull into that lot and their spot with minutes til kick off, parting the sea of humanity with a luxury SUV. It’s a wonder there aren’t more rage incidents between the late comers and the Jack wagons who sprawl all over every unoccupied space with corn hole boards and lounge chairs. Witnessed one guy run over one dudes corn hole board get out and cuss out the squatter, push and shove and generally make fools of themselves right in front of a bunch of kids….and they were both wearing orange!! It will likely be Willow Oaks or something similar that has a shallow root system. If so, it will be 15+ years before they have any size to them and 30-40 years to be anywhere close to the size of the existing oaks. The pics in the above reply show it will be beautiful once complete, though.
