Lyn J. Dixon

Sep 21, 2021, 11:09 PM

I find it funny these days when coaches discipline a kid, bench a kid, a kid transfers from a program etc., it has become because of favoritism, not nurturing, and even sometimes racial or sexist, etc. if there is a skin color or gender difference between the coach and the kid....especially if the kid looks like us, is same gender as us, etc. Then you have the win at all costs types who long for the Danny years with 25% grad rates and team 1.8 GPA'S..... However, the funny part is that most of the people yelling about this look back with fondness when they tell stories of getting their ##### tore up by Mama, and hardass demanding disciplinarian coaches and teachers they had as kids, etc., who changed their lives and taught them something. Some adults are a bigger part of the problem than young people. Accountability and discipline never go out of style. Hypocrisy should. I'll take Dabo and his culture, accountability, discipline over any other culture and coach in the nation. Lyn J is a SENIOR....you are still about you before team? Bye. Call me a fossil. Discipline, accountability, team still matter. Hypocrisy doesn't.

I've been pullin' for the kid for several years now. He's pretty amazing, really. And now that he's no longer in Etienne's shadow (not that he was ever that good at staying in it to begin with) I looked forward to him breaking out and showing everybody what he has.

Oh, well.

Clemson has handled the Transfer Portal perfectly so far, IMHO... by not taking anybody who didn't want to play for the team they had previously been part of, and offering thanks and well-wishes to those who no longer want to play for The Clemson Tigers Football Team.

Sure... LSU got Joe Burrow (and Kicked Our ###), but where are they now?

Ohio State got Justin Fields (and Kicked Our ###), but they ain't lookin' so hot at the moment either.

And what does Ohio State getting Justin Fields say about Kirby Smart?

Georgia's already gettin' all bouncy-wouncy with their QB picks. Granted, they have two who are very good, but who knows? One of them will most likely bolt for the portal before too long.

Maybe not. I'm just sayin'.

I think the stuff about race and gender preference and all that is just the freakin' Mainstream Media (and ESPN) doin' what they do. Looking back, I don't recall anyone ever suggesting that Kelly Bryant was overlooked because Trevor Lawrence is White, but it wouldn't surprise me to read something alluding to that at any moment in the future.

Thanks for starting this thread. It should continue to be a good one. This topic, and not just in reference to Lyn J., deserves more attention/discussion.

Good morning. Not to start any arguments and too lazy to actually go find the link but there were a few posts here on the TNet which suggested that it was KB's "turn" and that the only reason he was benched was because TL16 was white. A few people agreed but most Tnetters disagreed and the threads were soon abandoned.
Also, the "turn" concept just eludes me. I have a son who played high school football at a small private school. He was decent at his position but everyone, including him, knew that that would encompass his top end of football. There was never any expectation of furthering his football career. I do NOT understand why anyone who has played truly competitive sports would ever embrace the "turn" theory. When we start touting the "BEST IS THE STANDARD" as we denigrate our team and express our attachment to "turns" (The two are mutually exclusive), to me, it just shows that neither practice or theory of a team is sustainable. You can't select the best player, to take you to the best team, if someone gets a "turn". Spots are earned by hard work and all the other intangibles, not turns if you expect "best". The same principle applies in real life. The right person for the right position at the right time. And sometimes, it means making the masses mad.
Wishing all on Tnet a good day and GO TIGERS!!

What? Trying to to create drama about skin color?

Sep 22, 2021, 2:13 AM

WTH are you even saying or implying? No big time college coach in this world can express favoritism or negativism, even if they somewhat felt it. I don't think our staff has ever not made a single person on staff or team feel any type of racism. The worst thing you could say about Dabo is the Nepotism whish obliviously happens.

Nepotism has cost us 6-8 schollies per year with the sons of players, but not only that but players that wouldn't get a P5 sniff but are friends of sons, then add in the sons of friends and the sons of former college friends. We have had more No Star to 1 Star players than any P5 school in America. Seriously, with this Transfer Portal becoming an issue, we need to fill all the slots with 4 star players and let the parents or dabo pay for tokens.

Heck, Yeah ICATiger!

You nailed it. The Nepotism Factor must be taken into consideration, and has not for a bit too long I suppose.

We're led to believe that the Kids of the Coaches are pretty darned good at what they're doing, but that's most likely because they're doing it. We've seen mistakes made by the Kids of the Coaches, but we've been assured that they are the best fit for their spots.

I trust Dabo, and his entire staff, to do what is best for Clemson, The Fans of The Clemson Tiger Football Team, and the Clemson Fan Base. But coaches playing their own kids, while others sit on the bench, doesn't make me feel good.

I'm in agreement with Dabo 99.95% of the time, but if there are kids on the team who are better than His or Venables' kids, shouldn't we see them given the ability to show out?

I like when College Football Players show out.

Just sayin'.

I think you misunderstood me.

What I'm saying is that the media and some fans will imply negativity like that. I have seen it and heard it with KB/TL, big time women's hoops male coaches, a lot of FB coaches who dismiss a kid or he or she goes into the portal after discipline. I am in no way implying that coaches are guilty of this. I am stating that fans and media who believe this stuff are as big of an issue as the kids in programs who are selfish. I come from a time where being a part of a team taught you more than you can ever imagine in life. I also made a career in an organization that if you were a me guy, your life was made miserable by the organization and your peers. You got crushed. Dabo has a culture that sets these kids up for life. A great quote from Terry Allen a few years back when he was finishing up his degree on staff went something like "Coach Ford built men in the program, Coach Swinney's culture builds well rounded men", or something to that effect. I'll take this culture at CU over any other in the nation. I have known people around the FB program going back to the '70's, and the quality of culture, players, discipline, academics, focus, and accountability has never been close to CDS's program. If a kid cannot stay on board after multiple efforts to help him, you gotta go. Also, when CJ talks, you listen. CFB hall of famer gets my attention over a 18 to 22 year old who needs to mature. Work, get better, grow up.
