2nd financial quandary of the day

FIL said he wanted to sell his truck, "I just want to get $2K for it".
So I says, I'll give you 2K for it right now.
A few weeks later, he brings it to my house for me to sell.
I take pics and list on buddy book and park it by the road. Truck sells for $5,500 after 6 days.
How much do I give FIL for truck?

I help them sell all their major stuff (boats and cars). I also do the negotiating for new cars (just 2 so far). Haven't gotten anything before, but they obviously do a ton of stuff for us already.
I got some good in-laws.

And I expect he will not take it. At that point, you get the difference in c-notes, roll them up in a rubber band, and stick it over the visor in his new truck.

There was some real, "here, if you just sell it for me,

you can have whatever you make off of it."
Initially it was "I just want $2K". That doesn't feel right, so I'm definitely keeping some of it.
I had a couple sketch profiles making offers I didn't want to meat up with. Fortunately a neighbor bought it and we have a mutual connection so I didn't think I was going to get shot.
Also, I can only read JMO as jake me off.

If he's like every other upstanding fella with at least a 6 in front of his age, he will refuse. So, offer it during the nice dinner.

Did he accept the initial $2000 offer? If not and there was no talk of a split for you to sell it, I think the $5500 belongs to him.

I really don’t get this line of advice that keeps popping up. His FIL made the deal with him, knowing McLovin could get more than $2k, and in fact wanting McLovin to keep what profit over that he made
He didn’t want the hassle of selling the truck and he’d rather his family keep the extra than some stranger if he sold it to a dealer.
Giving him $2750 not only makes him whole based on his original expectation, but gives a little more because he’s family. McLovin put some effort into selling it. Why in the world would he hand it all over when that was no one’s expectation on this arrangement?
My caveats would be if pops implied he was expecting McLovin to make a couple hundo maybe or if the in-laws were in dire financial straights, but otherwise it’s a fair deal that no one involved should get upset over.

Yeah, he expected me to make money on it. I just felt like I need to give him more than the original amount.
But dang, not all of it.

Why chance it? Pops may have no idea it was worth that much

and MIGHT, again MIGHT feel he was taken advantage of. It ain't worth any amount of money to put a wedge in a close family relationship imo.
Again, pops may say, hey you keep the rest and should based on the original conversation .
Money just does not mean that much to me, I guess.
