Well, if you care about winning, then you better care about recruiting. It starts with the Jimmy and Joes. Certainly coaching is a part of it, but it's no surprise how Dabo became so successful.

There's a blue chip ratio that's pretty telling when it comes to natties, which we exceeded once again, pretty convincingly. And we did it hitting needs and wants with kids All In on our scene. I believe this staff is pretty thrilled with how all of this has gone down. And with the Inn now closed, who might our one-and-done 6-stars be returning for una mas?

1. Not much difference between a #12 class and a #7 class. Usually just one player can make up the difference.
2. Recruiting services fudge their rankings based on # of subscribers from team sites.

I agree with you. Oher things to consider. The difference between number 12 and number 5 is less than 5%. Do you think the recruiting services are right with greater than 95% accuracy? If so, how long do you think it will take for coaching to overcome less than a 5% difference? So, I would offer that numbers 5-12 could be interchanged quite easily (make the math tell the story you want to tell). And coaching can certainly change the outcome.

Exactly.
Add, if you need a punter or long snapper etc - they are all 3 or 2 stars. Supposedly drags down your ranking, but you got who you wanted.

I have not compared this class to other schools yet, but this is one heck of a good class. I'll take 19 4 & 5 stars high character signees any year. Got a top QB and loaded up in the trenches.

Anyone upset about this class now is very odd. Texas A&M had the “greatest class ever” and then proceeded to miss a bowl game. Let’s wait until these players make an impact on the field before getting all up in arms about what some internet person ranks a class.

The landscape changes almost daily.
Dabo has slightly changed his approach, I think. He has made it crystal clear that he isn't going to lead with NIL money. But MANY of the top high school guys are making college decisions based on NIL.
We'll see if he's right. I'd say that he has a pretty good track record for doing things differently from others.
He also has a penchant for finding underrated players (Baylon Spector and Nolan Turner say hello).

I would say most of our classes end up better than the ranking when reranked after 3 years. I trust the track record and I’m not just talking about Hunter Renfroe. DJ being the outlier.

Well we’re 8 in rivals. Why are you choosing one recruiting service and decide that being outside of the top 10 in that one service means doom and gloom?
Just look at the class and the individual players. This is a very solid class. We got a top ten QB which is the most important position on the field. We have one of the best defensive classes.

I actually think with the movement of guys in the portal these rankings are worth less than they used to be. It’s not always about who you get, it’s who you can develop, keep and actually helps you win games on the field. Go Tigers!

To OP:
I would agree...its a very solid class....a B+ IMO...but certainly not elite. We are not recruiting the "numbers" of elite skill at WR and RB that you would think we would considering the two recent NCs and the past successes at those positions/current successes at the NFL level. WR is the most puzzling. Some of that has been b/c of our recruiting philosophy...which IS slightly changing/evolving despite what some say. Also, a bit of it has been bad luck with kids not panning out. IMO, Dabo has come to recognize that he can keep his core values while evolving slightly. The issue is ppl want him to admit that and that is NEVER going to happen. Just look at the actions coming up soon.....
Also, the impending storm which is already upon us is that many of these "skill" kids are NIL kids ONLY. You WILL see CLEM improve its NIL game...it has to. We have seen evidence of this at FB games this fall. You will see more of it when we sign a couple of skill kids coming up...

Perhaps one of the best observations and honesty we've had on tnet. No secret or shame in admitting (fans, not coach speak) that we missed our skill positions in WR, RB, and a lesser extent back 7. Cotton, if you followed morgan thomas big board all year as some have, our 1,2,and 3 initial targets we missed on in some position groups.
We crushed it on the trenches, and hopefully the QB. We won't know how good or bad this class is for 2 years. Everyone was doing cartwheels and backflips over the 2020 class. Dabos highest rated composite ranked class to date. But various things happened and that wonderful class didn't produce.
Some discussion in another thread a couple days ago addressed this in more detail. I'll post a separate post on what I've compiled that may explain we're not as far off as it may appear.

There is a term in coaching call the "blue chip ratio". It means who ever has the most 4 and 5 star in the game. Not on the roster. We ll win. However there's not a lot of difference in the teams that recruit that end up in the top 20 in recruiting. You can have 3 5 star QB. But only one can play at a time. Plus if you watch a lot of football you ll see a ton of good star guys making plays.
That WR from down south was from James Madison. He burned our 4 and 5 star guys.
My point is recruiting is very important. But only one measurement. Then of course you have to keep these guys because they can all just bolt at anytime. Hit the portal.
This team looks to be in good shape going into the spring. The only thing I would do differently is bring in 3 or 4 transfer to fill some holes. Also not sure we need like 20 WRs on the roster. But dabo does know what he's doing.

The +91 are blue chip recruits 91.00 to 99.99
The other reference is from the 91+ was the 93+ which are considered high end instant impact recruit ratings and most likely to make NFL.

Eighteen 4-stars sucks...we can't win with only eighteen 4-stars... jeesh, who cares what 247 sports rates a class... only 11 guys get on the field on any given play.
Remember DJ was a consensus 5-star.

.... should include all those guys who are eligible for the NFL draft but decide to come back next year.
As Dabo said, "These are our portal guys."
Example: In addition to FSU signing 15 HS kids, 1 JUCO, and six transfer portal guys they also recruited Jordan Travis, Trey Benson, Rodney Hill, Lawrence Toafili so far. They may still recruit Johnny Wilson, Jared Verse, Fabian Lovett, and a few more. There are a bunch of 4 and 5 stars in that group.
Let's see which guys decide to stay at Clemson instead of leaving. Those guys should count in the recruiting ranking. Dabo obviously feels good about some of those guys staying. Let's just wait and see.

We have some studs and this class is solid but it does lack elite playmakers.
It use to be we recruited smaller classes and that’s why we were sometimes ranked lower but this class has 26 players.
