2021 Schedule: The Good, the bad, the ugly

Jan 28, 2021, 9:59 AM

As with any schedule there are several things to like and several things that will likely be a negative for the Tiger team and/or fans.

Starting with the Good:

Something that may be overlooked, but I think it's a bonus is that @ Pitt is not in November. @ Louisville is the only game north of Clemson after Oct 23.

We get a recovery game after we play UGA. We already knew that, but it's still a big positive to reset after what will likely be a very physical game in the opener.

@ Cuse on a Friday night is after the off week and not before. I don't think I need to explain that one.

The bad:

The off week is pretty early in the schedule, especially if Clemson plays in another ACC title game. That will be 8 straight weeks of games. Hopefully our depth will help with that, and I am thinking the UCONN game slipped in there will be a short appearance for our starters to get their legs under them for the stretch run. Bad, but not the worst.

Clemson will spend 28 days straight away from Death Valley from Oct 2 - Oct 30 due to an off week and back to back away games. That's no fun for Clemson fans or players and it will cause us to miss what is usually the best home game weather of the year in mid-October.

The ugly:

The home schedule - pitiful, but I am hoping an ACC team on our home schedule will be good enough to raise a little interest in the game.

Back to cootlumbia after missing our home game. It hasn't been a tough play to play lately, but everything about that city is ugly so it must be in this category.

I am sure there are other takes on the schedule. I am guessing that there will be some ACC games that are much tougher than what we are currently expecting. Pitt is returning a 3 year starter at QB and their roster has been improving. NC State had a much better season than expected last year. FSU is transfer U now, so who knows what will take the field for them.

We will have to fight against a let down of playing UGA first and getting underwhelmed with the remaining games that don't have the same buzz.

I fully expect Miami and UNC to fight it out for the top spot in the Coastal since both avoid Clemson on their schedule. It is likely that the winner will have a better record coming into the title game for that reason as well. Hopefully we will have that game to look forward to nearing the end of the season if we take care of business again on our side of things.

Opponents' games prior to facing Clemson

GA Tech - Kennesaw State
NC State - Furman
BC - Missouri (at least they might have to play 4 quarters)
Cuse - Wake (6 days before the Friday night)
Pitt - at VA Tech (big division game is a plus for Clemson)
FSU - UMASS
Louis - at NC State (competitive division game for them)
Wake - NC State (same as above)

Nobody gets an off week leading up to our game with them, but 3 teams get complete cupcakes prior to facing us.

Well lots of fishing to do in October here in the coastal waters of Charleston. It’s the best time for it!

And not necessarily in that order.

Somebody on that ACC road schedule will be better than we currently expect.
