2021 Clemson Football Similar to 2014

Dec 8, 2021, 7:15 PM

The 2021 Clemson football season was eerily similar to 2014. In 2014, Clemson lost to Georgia to start the season, lost two conference games(one in the Atlantic and one in the Coastal), had banged up QBs, beat South Carolina, and played Big 12 team in the same Cheez-It/Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando.

We all remember what happened over the next 6 years after that. It'll happen again.

We didn't lose our best coach in 2014

Whatever choice(s) you make makes you. Choose wisely.

Venables was the best coach on staff

and Dabo hired him so that means something.

We lost OC Chad Morris after the 2014 regular season. That was another parallel to 2014 I forgot to put in.

2021 reminds me more of 1980, Danny Ford's second season. Homer Jordan was a soph QB and not ready, and neither were most of his teammates. OC Nelson Stokley was in his first year and not ready either.

A close loss to GA 20-16 on fluke plays. GA had its greatest season and its only NC, and we had a tough season. We were 5-5 after the first 10 games. We only beat Western Carolina by 7; VT and UVA by 3 each; and Wake by 2.

We were beaten badly by Duke and MD and had close losses to NCS and UNC. When the coots came to town, we had lost 4 of the last 5 games, and many fans wanted Danny gone.

Out came the orange pants, and the highly favored coots were routed 27-6. Danny's job was saved, but DC Mickey Andrews left after the season, and Danny hired Tom Harper as DC.

Everybody knows that we were 12-0 the next year (1980) and won our first NC. Hopefully, history repeats itself.
