That USuc game...

Jun 5, 2013, 10:26 AM

Is a little to close for my taste!!

OT would probably favor the home team....sooo, I prefer another 63-17 kinda game!! 8-)

Would be GREAT to see mostly ORANGE in the stands as all the cockroaches scurry out of the stadium with all their "fear the thumb" t-shirts turned inside out!!

Go TIGERS!!!

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think this can happen if all the pieces fall into place...

Jun 5, 2013, 10:27 AM

but it's so hard to say. I just hope that if we do lose a game(s) it's not because we beat ourselves. Also hope that we don't have any key injuries.

Re: 2013 Season Prediction: Football 13-0

Jun 5, 2013, 10:37 AM

Our defense is going to much improved this year and will not give up that many points... thats an average of 24 pts a game, and that doesnt include a score added in for the Citadel game.. Our defense gave up an average of 22 over the last 7 games of last season and I expect the # to be lower than that this year.. They gave up 26 through the first 6, so they showed improvement over the last half of the season.

I love the optimism and winning, but definitely dont expect to give up that many points this year. BV has the defense rolling and shutting down LSU proved that...

Acknowledged, but the offense & the running game will be better as well. Clemson & other teams play at such a high tempo so idk, but the D may be able to average under 20 a game. We'll see.

Jun 5, 2013, 11:30 AM [ in reply to Re: 2013 Season Prediction: Football 13-0 ]

Your defense only gave up 22 points the last 7 games because y'all played Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Duke, Maryland (with a LB at QB), NC State, SC, and LSU...

Scoring offenses rankings:
VT: 81
Wake Forest: 114
Duke: tied 44
Maryland: 107
NC State: 69 (who y'all gave up 48 points to)
SC: tied 44
LSU: 58

Y'all played horrible offenses, so that's why you saw an "improved" defense. Your toughest offensive game was versus SC (above average at best offense ) and y'all lost.

surprised Duke, NCSt ranked that low and SC ranked that high

Jun 5, 2013, 12:09 PM

Duke and NC State were pretty prolific offenses at times. On the other hand SC, was pretty boring.

You're offense didn't win that game it was the defense and you know that. 24 points wouldn't have beaten us if Clowney wasn't all over Tajh.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If that happens we need to fire a few coaches.

Jun 5, 2013, 10:39 AM

The Chad for not scoring double those numbers with the talent he has on offense, Venables for giving up that many points with the talent he has on defense and Dabo for hiring them!

Realize there will be a little let down after winning opener but I will gladly take the over on the 51. Way over! Schuessler plays in this one, after Mcelveen throws TD pass, after Stoudt throws one and runs one and Boyd gets second half off

And we will also find out that Santa Claus is going to actually visit all of our houses this year. CU really only has 3 games wothry of discussion. Two of them at home. I say they split those. CU has a way of also slipping up and losing one they have no business losing. Then they have to go to Columbia at the end. 9-3. But still may be good enough to win the tallest midget contest in Charlotte in December.

home field hasn't mattered for SC against Clemson

Jun 5, 2013, 12:04 PM

and it won't matter this year, either. Clemson had the better team against South Carolina last year, but Spurrier, Thompson and co. managed to stay on the field for too long for Morris and Boyd to get much figured out. This year, SC won't have as much luck on offense and their defense won't be quite as solid either. You'll be relying on Clowney's pash rushing skills, but teams will game plan for him.

Clemson is an improved team this year, and despite playing Georgia, I don't see them losing more games than last year. Anything worse than 11-1 is a disappointment, and 9-3 would be a major disappointment.

Re: home field hasn't mattered for SC against Clemson

Jun 5, 2013, 12:11 PM

Home field is a major advantage, if SC and Clemson are top 10 when the game is played, expect a record breaking crowd. Expect a crowd like the one against UGA when Aaron Murray had to slap the center to receive the snap because the crowd was so loud. They also had to stop calling shotgun plays because the offense could not hear Aaron Murray. That "luck" you speak of is called coaching, as Spurrier outcoached Dabo and Morris. Spurrier and Ward made adjustments while Dabo and Morris did not.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

SC has had some big crowds against Clemson in the past

Jun 5, 2013, 12:16 PM

and Clemson has had some big crowds against SC in the past, and what I'm saying is that history shows the home field advantage doesn't matter a whole lot in the rivalry game. It's hard to say whether it has mattered for Clemson, as we usually beat you on either field so I doubt there's a major difference.

And just to add to that, how are the 30- 40,000 fans (20,000 of which will be Clemson fans) left in your stadium after the third quarter going to affect the game at all? I just don't see it ;)

Clemson's offense played an uncharistically poor game

Jun 5, 2013, 1:11 PM [ in reply to Re: home field hasn't mattered for SC against Clemson ]

Call it coaching if it makes you feel better but that just simply wasn't the case.

The biggest difference in that game was an inability by the Clemson defense to get off the field; a problem that was exacerbated by two rediculously poor calls by your $EC officials.

As poorly as Clemson played, it was a one score game with four minutes remaining until the officials helped secure the win for you.

Re: Clemson's offense played an uncharistically poor game

Jun 5, 2013, 1:39 PM

Come on man, you can't be saying Clemson "beat itself" and the refs are the reason why? Just gotta tip your cap to SC and it's defense. Maybe our defense had something to do with the offense's performance that night? Maybe defensive adjustments is the reason why we held Clemson to 3 points after the first quarter while offensive adjustments are the reason why we scored 20 after the first quarter?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Everyone scored on Clemson's defense in 2012.

Jun 5, 2013, 2:09 PM

I didn't say Clemson beat itself. I said the Clemson offense had an uncharistically poor game. Certainly the $CU defense gets some credit for that but there is no denying, the offense was just a little off in that game. They picked the wrong night to have a bad game...it happens. Had the Clemson offense played like it normally does (i.e., the LSU game), the outcome would likely have been different.

points like the last couple of years. I see a really stingy, nasty defense this year. The defense is starting to remind me of the defenses of the past that when we needed a big stop, no problem. I think this only enhances the offense to score more points, also.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'll take a shot at this...

Jun 5, 2013, 11:59 AM

UGA- W 45- 38. Will be a barnburner of a game. I kind of think I'm being conservative in picking such a low number of total points, so I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being a 63- 56 type game. Either way, I think Clemson is the more experienced team, playing at home, and their offensive strength outmatched UGa's offensive strength. Should be a fun game, either way.

SC State- W- 52- 10

NC State- W- 47- 24. State loses Mike Glennon, and with him they lose a lot of the offensive production they had last year. They'll be better on defense, though, so Clemson "only" scores in the 40s.

Weak Florist- 45- 13. No idea how they're looking next year, but they won't have enough to beat Clemson at home.

Syracuse- 35- 21. Like the OP, I think this could be a tough game. Syracuse played well down the stretch this year, but a lot of that was due to their now- departed QB, Ryan Nassib. Not sure they'll be a great offense without him, and they're under a new coach, but we're travelling a long way so this might be tough.

BC- 42- 27. BC was actually supposed to be improved last year, but they really stunk up the join (except when they almost beat Notre Dame). They return Alex Amidon, who has burned Clemson badly the last couple of years, along with a veteran QB in Chase Rettig. They'll score some points, but in the end they'll wilt against CU's HUNH offense.

FSU- W- 35- 24. FSU will still come to play on defense, but I'm not sure how Jameis Winston will hold up on the road against Clemson. Clemson probably wins last year if the FSU game as at home and Clemson is an improved team while FSU is having to "reload," so I think Clemson wins this one.

Maryland- W- 49- 17. Maryland will improve this year by virtue of actually having one of the top 4-5 QBs healthy and on the field. They should also be a bit better now that their players have gotten used to their new coach's system. It won't matter, though, because they just don't have the talent to stop Clemson.

GT- W- 56- 28. Clemson finally figures out how to stop GT's option offense, and this one is over before half time. GT's defense can't stop anything Clemson is doing, and Boyd has 300 yards by the third quarter.

Citadel- W- 62- 12.

USC- 27- 16. Boyd gets harassed by Clowney, but the zone read allows McDowell and co. to rack up the yards and eat up the clock. Clemson's defense does a good job on third down. Tony Steward breaks Shaw in half then knocks Thompson out, prompting Spurrier to spike his visor and go looking for helmets.

ACCC
Miami or UNC- W 44- 38. Both of those teams have some offensive firepower that could give the Tigers trouble, but neither have the defense to ruin what we're cooking. On to the next one...

National Championship
Clemson vs. Ohio State. Not even gonna pick a score here, but we all know what happens when OSU comes up against those southern boys.

Re: 2013 Season Prediction: Football 13-0

Jun 5, 2013, 12:28 PM

In my opinion, trying to predict actual scores of individual games is fun as an exercise, but impossible to get very close to reality. But here is what I think does make sense:

(1)In 2012 we averaged almost 43 points a game. With a significantly improved O-line, we should average north of 50 ppg in 2013 if Tajh stays healthy, Hot Rod or someone else steps up and fills Ellington's shoes and Jordan Leggett lives up to the potential he has already shown.

(2) A vastly improved defense (DL/LB/DB)with an added year of experience for the 2-deep rotation and another year of Venables system under their belt, will hold our opponents to an average of 24 points or less.

(3) That equals an AVERAGE margin of victory of 26-28 points. While that's no guarantee of 14-0, it makes that outcome seem very reasonable.

GO TIGERS !! Beat the leg humpers and then take the rest one game at a time ... focus & don't beat ourselves.
We are the only opponent I really fear.

Jun 5, 2013, 1:07 PM

> USC - W 30 - 27 (OT)

> Clemson vs. Alabama W 33 - 27 OT .

I have one question on these scores. It is reasonable to assume the SC OT score, they either missed a field goal and we made ours or they kicked the field goal and we scored a TD.
The Bama OT score is not as clear. For that to be the score, Bama would have missed a field goal and we scored a TD or they had to attempt to score the TD as well. If that is the case , we would have added the PAT and would be up 34-27.
It doesn't matter as long as we have the W, my question is how did you come up with that particular margin of victory?

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: 2013 Season Prediction: Football 13-0

Jun 5, 2013, 3:29 PM

USC OT. They either fumble or throw a pick & we kick a fg to win.

Bama OT - The ball hits the upright, no good. Clemson breaks a long run to win the game 33-27. Extra point, unnecessary.
