Favorite Georgia Dome Memories?

Nov 20, 2017, 10:45 AM

I saw quite a few games there i'd just assume forget (LSU '96, Auburn '97, Miss State '99 Peach Bowls, 2008 Bama, and by far the most frustrating: 2007 Chic-fil-a bowl OT loss to Auburn). But my Top 3 would be:

#3: 1993 Peach Bowl: (23)Clemson- 14 Kentucky- 13. This was a sloppy game, but entertaining for sure. After a long screen pass to Emory Smith set us up for a game winning score, Patrick Sapp threw what looked to be a game-losing INT to a Kentucky LB; however, instead of downing the ball, he tried to run it back, had it stripped, and recovered by Clemson. 3 plays later, Sapp hit Terry Smith for the game winning TD. Clemson won despite 10 penalties and only 119 rushing yard.

#2: 2012 Chic-Fil-A Kickoff Classic - (14)Clemson - 26 Auburn - 19. Another sloppy game, but Boyd, Ellington, and Nuk made enough plays to seal the deal. The Defense, first game under new DC BV, showed improvement, and the ability to make some key stops.

#1: 2004(2003) Peach Bowl, Clemson- 27 (6)Tennessee- 14
We got into Tennesseee's head during Pregame warm-ups, and then dominated them up front all game long. Chad Jasmin was a bruising force running for a career high 130 YDS, a fitting finish and the icing on the cake to "The Finish" 2003.

won that game at the end, there were Tiger fans up and down every row jumping on each other and spilling there beverages. It was glorious and then we left the stadium and everyone on the street was celebrating new years.

The “ catman” kick to win the LSU game was a biggie to me. That game got us headed to where we are today.

The Tennessee win ranks up there too!

That is my #1....actually my only 1. Only been there once - for the 2012 LSU game. I remember telling my wife and kids all of these rabid SEC-fan horror stories that my co-workers (who are SC fans) shared about LSU fans. They said they would throw bottles at other fans, etc. I guess that is where SC learned it from huh? So anyway, I told my family "If we make this FG, sit down in your seats because LSU fans are going to start throwing stuff at us!!" He made it. And like big dummies, we sat down immediately! We were the only Clemson fans seated. After 5-10 sec of looking around....nothing dangerous happened, so we joined in the celebration!

I remember it the same as you. Tiger fans who had never seen each other before were hugging.

#1 - The Clemson/Kentucky game. It was my first bowl game that I attended. Great memories!
#2 - The Clemson/UTenn game. Great win against a befuddled Tennessee team. Plus, I remember going through a Wendy's drive-through at 1:00am in the morning with 8 people in a mini-van. God bless that drive-through order taker. :)

My favorite game in the dome was definitely the '03 Peach Bowl. The first road game I'd ever been to, and I made the trip with my (now) fiancee', her brother and some other friends. We were underdogs and were just happy to get a bid to the Peach Bowl - I remember tickets were incredibly hard to get. Somehow, my fiancee found 4 tickets on Craigslist or Ebay or something - they ended up being in the UT band section. We were actually interviewed twice by Knoxville news stations, trying to figure out what we were doing there (our only guess was some band people got their tix early and sold them or something - we never really figured it out). We heard Rocky Top so many times, I thought I was gonna puke. But Whitehurst and Co balled out and we won - was a great NYE in Atlanta.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Definitely the peach bowl win over UT

Nov 20, 2017, 10:54 AM

I was one of the people who got tickets online even though the game had already sold out and a glitch in their website allowed for tickets to keep getting sold. After CFA gave back a lot of their corporate tickets I was given tickets on the 50 yard line about 15 rows up from the field. The original tickets I tried to buy was upper deck corners. The final score wasn't really indicative of how we dominated that game, but that entire season was the epitome of a Tommy Bowden season!

For me it was Tennessee in January '04, hands down. Vols were still a big deal back then.

Auburn opener in '12 was second.

Others I saw there were '98 Auburn, '99 Miss St, Auburn '07, and Alabama '08. But all of those were losses! Would like to forget that Bama one.

The 4 of us that went wondered just how many $'s worth of beer was spilled on the interception and then fumble play. For me there was just something special about the rubber band change in attitude between the interception that should have sealed the game and the fumble that ultimately gave us the win.

TN in 2004. We had front row seats right behind Clemson. Loved that game!

Next would be the game against LSU.

was just how much less the commentators talked. There was a ton of airtime which was nothing but crowd noise. These days the commentators have to fill every available second with talk.

Re: Favorite Georgia Dome Memories?

Nov 20, 2017, 2:49 PM

I've been lucky to have experienced a lot of great games growing up going to Atlanta for the Peach bowl. I remember the street turning orange with Clemson fans as New Years dawned.

My favorite by far was the LSU game though. My husband and I were dating long distance at that point while he was in Afghanistan. I remember pacing in and out of my row on before the 4th and 16 play because I was on the verge of throwing up. I remember going nuts with everyone and my brother basically tackling me. Most of all I remember wishing my now husband was there and going back and forth via email with him for 15 minutes or so on the MARTA because he had lost the game streaming and had no clue what happened.

Looking back now it was also a HUGE (I would argue THE) turning point in our program in my opinion.

Go Tigers!

It would have to be the 1993 Peach Bowl. Only bowl game I ever got to see us win while I was a student. The interception-fumble and the win happened right in front of the band, which was awesome. I have always been a big Patrick Sapp fan and was happy to see him get that win. Great New Year's Day celebration afterwards. It was a nice beginning for West's tenure...wish he could have kept the winning up.

Favorite would be beating Tennessee. Least favorite was the Mississippi State bowl. I was in the Clemson section but on the end of the aisle and 3 feet to my right was the Mississippi State fans and their annoying cow bells...

I live in Tennessee and it was big time fun to go to work that Monday after putting 6 sacks on the UT QB Claussen. The UT fans were in shock. Then came Lane Kiffin who told UT commit Tajh Boyd his skill set didn't fit the new UT offense. The rest is history. Thank you UT??

2004 peach bowl. 45 yard line, lower bowl. Nobody gave us any chance to win against an SEC power like UT. They had a lot of fans there, was so great to destroy Casey clausen, and watch the confetti fall when we won.

I was a 15 year season ticket holder for the falcons, and had some great moments in the dome, but that Clemson-UT game really stands out in my mind.
